How To Beat Zhang Bao

Fighting Zhang Bao in Wo Long Fallen Dynasty can be a challenging battle due to his exclusive use of magical attacks.

He can summon rings of fire, pillars of fire, orbs of fire, and red shards, all of which can stagger and quickly defeat you.

To make the fight considerably easier, you need to keep the pressure on Zhang Bao by staying as close to him as possible.

It may seem counterintuitive, but pushing through his waves of flame rings, deflecting his attacks, and continuing to move forward is essential.

  • Stock up on Dragon's Cure Pots to have some extra health boosts on hand and increase your survivability during the fight.
  • Boost your Morale to 20 or more, as this will make the battle significantly easier. You can easily farm Morale by defeating enemies and capturing banner flags around the area.
  • Equip a Ranged Weapon and bring ammo to make the first half of the fight easier and avoid Zhang Bao's attacks.
  • Upgrade your weapons at the Blacksmith earlier in the level to increase your damage output. While it's possible to beat the boss with lower-level weapons, having a higher damage stat will make the fight easier.
  • Have at least one Wizardry Spell of each type to counter Zhang Bao's magic attacks.
  • Use Battle Flags and Marking Flags to increase your Fortitude Rank, which will make battling Zhang Bao easier.

Once you've completed these preparations, you're ready to take on the General of Earth and attempt to defeat him.

Zhang Bao Attacks

To defeat Zhang Bao in Wo Long Fallen Dynasty, you need to learn the attack patterns and wear down their Spirit level before attacking the health.

It is essential to keep your distance from Zhang Bao for most of the fight while Guan Yu and Zhang Fei engage in melee combat.

This gives you an opportunity to use your ranged weapon, such as a crossbow, to chip away at Zhang Bao's Spirit and health or to heal yourself if necessary. When Zhang Bao is weakened, release your Divine Beast, such as Qilin, to deal additional damage.

However, be mindful that Zhang Bao can teleport around the battlefield and attack you unexpectedly.

To avoid this, use your target tracker to keep track of their movements.Halfway through the fight, Zhang Bao will summon four Warlocks that will appear in the corners of the battlefield.

It is crucial to pull back from Zhang Bao and let Guan Yu and Zhang Fei engage the Warlocks while you deal with them quickly.

The Warlocks can cause significant problems, so taking them out as soon as possible is critical.By understanding Zhang Bao's attack patterns, using your ranged weapon and Divine Beast strategically, and dealing with the Warlocks quickly, you can defeat Zhang Bao and progress to the next level.

How To Win Easily

The key to defeating Zhang Bao is to know how to anticipate his attacks and learn which ones to parry, dodge, counter, or which ones are unguardable.

  • Zhang Bao frequently teleports, but your lock-on will remain intact, so you can immediately sprint to his next location before he has the chance to conjure any spells.

Even if Zhang Bao manages to cast a spell before you reach him, most of them are slow-moving, relatively speaking, and should be easy to run out of the path of or prepare for a deflection.

Zhang Bao will be several Morale Ranks below you, assuming you have raised every Battle and Marking Flag throughout the level, and defeated most, if not all, enemies.

  • If you are around Morale Rank 21+, this fight should be considerably easier as Zhang Bao is Rank 18 and will only be temporarily buffed at around the halfway point of the fight.
  • Bao has two Critical Blow moves. One is summoning a ball of red shards above his head, which he hurls at you.

Deflect this just before it reaches you to throw it back at him, dealing significant damage.

  • His second Critical Blow involves him teleporting right next to you and going for a grab.

To avoid this, ensure your lock-on is always on Zhang Bao, and if you see him glow red just before teleporting, and he doesn’t instantly appear elsewhere in the arena, he is about to appear in front of you and grab you. Deflect just as he appears.

  • The fact that you have both Guan Yu and Zhang Fei in this fight is a massive help.

With all three of you charging Bao, you can easily momentarily stunlock him in a corner of the arena, all spamming attacks.

  • At around 50% health, Zhang Bao will summon a number of Demonized Warlocks that sit around the outer perimeter of the arena.

These will be passive enemies that buff up Bao, increasing his Morale Rank and therefore his strength. As soon as they appear, prioritize eliminating all of them.

  • One of the attacks he uses the most is a Fire-based one where he sends out rings of fire around him in waves.

These are easy to dodge by jumping at the right time, but you can counter them with a Water Spell. Another magic attack that he uses will actually tell you it's coming. If the ground beneath your feet begins to glow, quickly use your dodge and dash to get out of the circle.

  • Unguardable attacks are the ones that you cannot parry, but if you counter them at the right moment, you can launch a powerful counterattack on Zhang Bao.
  • One of these attacks is when he stops, his hand will glow red briefly and then launch a large object at you.

Just before the object hits you, use your counter command to send it back to him with some force.

This will substantially damage his Spirit and health bar if timed right.
