There are more than 150 Shrines in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. But although you can of course use map guides to find every Shrine, you might still face yourself in trouble finding the last Shrines in the game. If that's the case, you might have been misled by a tiny detail in the game – here's how to definitely spot the very last TotK Shrines you're missing.
Just like its predecessor Breath of the Wild, Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom includes many mini dungeons, called Shrines. In TotK, there are even more Shrines than in BotW, 152 in total.
To find out how many of them you've done already, simply teleport to any completed Shrine and on the right side of the loading screen, you'll get your answer.
But finding them in the first place can be a big challenge, even if you're using a guide and have your Shrine sensor activated. This article is meant not only to give you an overview about Shrine peculiarities; we will also show you a specific exclusion process method that will help you search out any Shrine you just can't find, which can easily happen – more on that later.
Zelda Tears of the Kingdom: How To Find Shrines – Best Practice
The first thing you should know is how the Shrines are spread all over Hyrule. There are 32 Shrines on the Sky Islands, while the remaining 120 Shrines are located on Hyrule's surface. So if you're missing only a few Shrines, you can just count them on your map to find out whether you're missing some on the surface or in the Sky Islands.
This also means that there are no Shrines in the depths. Still, you should be aware that every Lightroot in the depths shares its location with a Shrine on the surface.
So if you've discovered all 120 Lightroots, you can just check your map for locations where there's a Lightroot marked in the Depths, but no Shrine marked on the surface (this of course also works the other way around to search for certain Lightroot locations). Fun fact: A Lightroot's name is always matching the name of the Shrine on the surface, just spelled backwards.
If you're not interested in finding the Shrines yourself that way, you can of course just use a map to get an overview of all Shrine locations. An interactive map is the best tool to spot not only Shrines, but also other stuff like wells or Skyview Tower locations.

Zelda TotK: Why You Can Still Miss Shrines And How To Find Them
So, there are several approaches to find all 152 Shrines. But it might still happen that you're missing some Shrines although you've either counted all of them on your map or compared your map with the ones on the internet.
If that's the case, you will probably just not have looked close enough – because under certain conditions, a Shrine can also appear on your map although you haven't done it yet.
The thing is, as soon as you're close enough to a Shrine and activate it, it will appear on your map, even if you haven't entered it. Since the game offers so much stuff to explore, it can of course be the case that you intentionally decided to do something else than solving the Shrine before, even if you stood right in front of it.
In that case, there will be a little orange dot within the Shrine symbol on the map, like you can see in the screenshot above.
So if you've counted 120 Shrines on the surface and 32 in the Sky Islands on your map, but you're still missing one or more, stop going insane, look again and look for Shrine symbols with an orange dot in it – because there is a high chance that you've already discovered the missing ones, but just haven't noticed that they're marked slightly differently on your map than the other ones.
