GTA 6 is arguably the most-anticipated game of the decade, and in December 2023 it was finally officially revealed. However, the announcement showed that tons of players won’t even be able to play the next Grand Theft Auto when it comes out. Here’s why.
Is there one game people are more excited for than GTA 6? The hype is immense, and as we slowly find out more and more about the next Grand Theft Auto, our anticipation grows and grows.
And that’s partially due to the game sounding really amazing. Two protagonists, Vice City, a focus on robberies, it all sounds fantastic. The first trailer just confirms that everything we heard before looks really exciting.
Unfortunately, Rockstar's official announcement of GTA 6 revealed that millions of people won’t get to enjoy the game once it finally comes out.
Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC: GTA 6 To Exclude Millions Of Players
GTA 6 is slated to come in 2025, this has been confirmed by the trailer. That’s still a good while until we can finally play the new Grand Theft Auto, which is set to be next-gen exclusive. And we only mean the consoles by this, as GTA 6 won't launch on PC.
This was confirmed by a press release from Take-Two, the company that owns Rockstar Games. In the announcement, it clearly states that "Grand Theft Auto VI is coming to PlayStation® 5 computer entertainment systems and Xbox Series X|S games and entertainment systems in 2025". There's no word on a PC-version.
There will definitely be a PC-version, that's out of question. Every Rockstar game got a port down the line, with Red Dead Redemption being the expection that proves the rule. However it usually takes a while until these versions come out.
Rockstar Game | Console Release Date | PC Release Date |
Grand Theft Auto 4 | April 29, 2008 | December 2, 2008 |
Grand Theft Auto 5 | September 17, 2013 | April 14, 2015 |
Red Dead Redemption 2 | October 26, 2018 | November 5, 2019 |
Considering that GTA 5 and RDR 2 took over a year to come to PC, we expect the same to happen for Grand Theft Auto 6. So if you're a PC player, expect the game to come in 2026. However, Rockstar could potentially have changed their process and could bring the game to PCs earlier. You should absolutely expect to wait for some time, though.
The Xbox Series and PS5 have been out since 2020, and it’s been really hard to even get one of these for a long time, especially the Sony console. This has, thankfully, gotten better. So by the time GTA 6 comes out, these consoles should be readily available and most people will probably have one by then.
But so far, this generation of consoles hasn’t given players too many reasons to make the jump. Will this be different by 2025? Let’s hope so. If not, you can always build a strong PC, which is easier than ever. At least if you can afford it…
