According to leaks, GTA 6 will completely change the way weapons work compared to series tradition.
Grand Theft Auto 6 will finally be revealed in December and everyone is super excited to see what the game finally looks like. At least to officially see it, as leaks have already revealed a number of interesting details about Rockstar’s next crime epic.
And from what we have seen, it looks like GTA 6 will break with series tradition in more ways than one. This includes the fact that we will play with two characters, one of whom is female. But there will also be some key differences in terms of gameplay, including how weapons will work.
GTA 6: Weapons Will Work Differently From Previous Games
The GTA series is famous for letting you take as many weapons with you as you want. Pulling a rocket launcher out of your back pocket? No problem, even in GTA 5. Now it looks like the much-anticipated sequel will change that and implement a more realistic system.
For one, this was suggested by a Twitter user called @GTAonlineNews. They claim to know, that players will “be limited to carrying just a few weapons” in GTA 6, comparing that to games like Alan Wake 2 or Red Dead Redemption 2.
Additional weapons will have to be procured in different ways, for example by having a duffle bag in the trunk of your car and switching out the guns you’re carrying with you there.
We can also verify we've been told the same thing, that in #GTA6 you'll be limited to carrying just a few weapons like in AW2/RDR2 and you'll have use other methods to carry extra weapons with you throughout the game. https://t.co/CeiXVcRlu9

While the legitimacy of this person’s supposed insider access can’t be verified (you should take their claims with a grain of salt in general), the huge GTA 6 September 2022 leak already showed that at least the first part of that statement is true.
In the leaked footage, we saw the game’s male protagonist walking around with only a limited amount of weapons equipped, including a rifle that he carried around his shoulder.
This should instantly remind players of RDR2, where Arthur Morgan physically carried every weapon on him. Considering that Rockstar is putting more and more emphasis on realism with each title, it makes sense that they would integrate this system into GTA as well.
In RDR2, you could go to your horse and change the handful of weapons that you had equipped on you. So while we haven’t seen anything like the mentioned duffle bags, it would make sense for GTA 6 to have a system for changing your loadout.
Remember that this is based on an old leak from even older footage, so there’s no saying if any of this possibly changed in any way for the full release. I fully expect Rockstar to implement a similar weapons system to RDR2 in their next game as well, though.
What do you think of this new weapons system? Let us know in the comments below!
