The rogue-lite hit Hades turned the indie game world upside down in 2020. As the son of the god of the dead, we hacked and slashed our way through the various levels of the Underworld, aided by the powers of Greek mythology gods.

Soon, a new indie game called Legendary Hoplite will come out that aims to tackle similar material in a slightly different way.

In Legendary Hoplite, You Prevent Humanity From Extinction At The Hands Of Monsters From Greek Mythology

The upcoming Action RPG Legendary Hoplite reminds us of the successful title from Supergiant Games, both in terms of setting and to some extent visually as well. This quickly becomes apparent in the announcement trailer.

In the game developed by TripleBricksGames, however, you don't play as an undead demigod, but instead take on the role of Dio, a hero inspired by famous figures from Greek mythology such as Achilles or Hector.

As Dio, you fight with spears, swords, and shields against creatures threatening to overrun the city of Ithica.

In doing so, you learn to unleash your true power, develop flexible combat strategies, and lead your own army. Here is where the Plants vs. Zombies part comes into play because Legendary Hoplite is a tower defense game with RPG elements.

Besides strategically arranging the armies, you'll need to upgrade them through battles to match the stronger and more unusual enemies. The classic skill tree upgrade system combined with the sets of war technique provide the required versatility. Changing them will open up tactical options and let your defenders vanquish the ever-changing monster waves.

At the end of last year, the game underwent a playtest and processed player feedback. In addition to adjusting the soundtrack, the Vietnamese dev team is working on balancing boss fights and items, and in-game hints are being made more visible. If you enjoyed Hades and Plants vs. Zombies, be sure to give Legendary Hoplite a try and check out its Steam page. The game is set to release on February 2. We're eager to see how the finished game performs.
