With the first official Trailer dropped in early June 2021, Palworld gained some attention, looking like a wild mix of Pokémon, Zelda, and Ark.

And while you can find many comments and articles that describe the game as a Pokémon shooter, it's way more like an open-world survival crafting game that blends elements of adventure and creature collection.

We'll explain, what the game is and why you should definitely give it a try.

What Is Palworld & Why You Should Play It?

Palworld offers a unique twist on the survival genre by integrating creature companionship with survival mechanics, set in a vibrant and diverse world.

Basically, you want to catch Pals (the Pokémon in Palworld) because they can be used in a variety of ways, such as helping in battle, gathering resources, or farming.

The main aspects of the game are

  • Creature collection and companionship: At the heart of Palworld is the unique ability to befriend and collect a variety of creatures known as "Pals". These Pals are not just companions; they have special abilities and traits that can help you in various aspects of the game.
  • Survival Mechanics: As a survival game, Palworld challenges players to navigate and survive in a dynamic environment. This includes gathering resources, managing basic needs such as hunger and health, and adapting to changing weather conditions and potential threats.
  • Crafting and Building: The game features an extensive crafting system. Players can gather materials to create tools, weapons, and other items. Building is also an important aspect of the game, allowing players to construct shelters, bases, and even intricate structures.
  • Combat and Adventure: Palworld offers combat elements, where players can engage in battles using their Pals or crafted weapons. The open-world nature of the game encourages exploration, uncovering hidden locations, and embarking on various quests and adventures.
  • Farming and Resource Management: Players can engage in farming activities, growing crops and managing resources efficiently. This aspect is crucial to survival and progression in the game.
  • Multiplayer Experience: Palworld includes multiplayer features that allow players to team up with friends or engage with others in the game world, enhancing the social and cooperative aspects of gameplay.

As you can see, there is a lot to do in Palworld. We think the best way to describe the game is as a mix of Pokémon, Zelda and Ark.

The Pokémon influence is evident in the game's central feature – the Pals. Like Pokémon, these creatures inspire players to embark on a quest to 'catch them all,' adding a familiar and exciting twist to creature collection. However, Palworld adds its own unique flair to this concept.

The game's world design and variety are reminiscent of the iconic Zelda series. The art style and exploration elements in Palworld evoke the sense of adventure and discovery that Zelda games are known for.
Ark's influence shines through in the survival, farming and crafting aspects of Palworld. These mechanics add depth and challenge, and encourage players to engage with their environment in meaningful ways. The game is currently in Early Access and costs less than $30 on Steam – but it's also available on Game Pass.
