LoL Arena has been one of the most popular rotating game modes for Riot. Players want it to become permanent, but it's still unclear whether Riot will listen to players.
Arena was introduced to League of Legends during the Soul Fighter Event in 2023. Since then, it has already made a successful return for the 2023 Winterblessed event, and players are already wondering whether the mode is going to finally become permanent.
In a recent Reddit AMA, Riot Cadmus revealed what the company is planning and whether fans have a right to get their hopes up.
LoL: Fans Hope For Permanent Arena Mode
During a recent League of Legends Reddit AMA, the devs answered players' burning questions and inquiries. Of course, the topic of rotating game modes, especially Arena, also came up. The team was asked about Arena potentially becoming permanent, like ARAM, but there are a few challenges.
Riot Cadmus explained that the team is "evaluating the possibility" of making the mode permanent, but that it will be a much heavier investment.
There are a ton of things to prove out, such as our content pacing model, how closely does the mode stick to Classic items/balance update, etc.

What the devs also look for, when deciding to make Arena permanent, is whether there is a big enough core playerbase who would sustain the mode. That's also why the team had to shut down other permanent modes like Twisted Treeline in the past.
For now, Riot Cadmus did explain that it looks like the team should pursue more opportunities for players to experience League of Legends in other ways. So we can expect more new game modes, but Riot still has to gather a lot of data on Arena before deciding if it will be permanent.
