Riot is going to be releasing a new game mode called Arena very soon, but fans are wondering whether it'll be permanent or if they can only enjoy it for a short time period.
Riot is releasing a brand-new game mode! Arena is here and it'll be one of the best things to happen in League of Legends for a while. Why? Because we finally get to play something new and refreshing.
The big event is going to reward us with ten new skins in League of Legends, more skins in other Riot IPs, a new game mode and a cool metagame which gives players a glimpse of Project L. But will Arena, the new game mode stick around?

Unfortunately, the plans for Arena are not set into stone yet. For now, the developers have it planned to be in the client for the duration of the big summer event.
Riot Cadmus has explained on Reddit that the new mode is going to be live during the event and throughout this time the team will evaluate the popularity of the game mode before making any plans for the future.
The team wants to gather feedback from the community to be able to push the game mode where players want it to be before they decide on turning it into a permanent mode in the League of Legends client.
Riot Axes also confirmed this, stating that they hope to bring the game mode back in the future.
Our current intention is to run it for the duration of the summer event and hopefully be able to bring it back in the future. But at the end of the day it's going to be about how you folks engage with it.
This means that players will have to actually play the game mode and make it have a lasting effect, otherwise it'll be gone to the winds of time, just like previous PvE modes like extraction.
More Insights About Arena Mode Future in Reddit AMA
A few members of the Modes Team held a Reddit Ask Me Anything on July 26, about a week after the new Arena Mode went live. Thanks to the AMA, we gained even more insight about the possible future of Arena. One of the Rioters taking part had the following to say:
From a technical perspective we approached this mode as if it could be permanent, which is a little different than we have done in the past within engineering. This means that if we decide we want it permanently we have less hurdles on the tech side to do so, which is nice.
This is a clear sign that Riot had a possible Arena comeback in mind right from the start. It's still important for us to note that this is no confirmation that the mode will indeed return in the future. Still, Riot seems to be actively monitoring engagement and player feedback to determine if they should bring back Arena at some point in the future.
Riot have stated this on multiple occasions already, that they would love to bring these modes back, but that according to their data, there is only a short-lived hype before players go back to playing Summoner's Rift again.
