The Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake was initially revealed by Ubisoft in 2020. But after facing massive backlash due to underwhelming graphics, the game experienced a deadly delay. Now, three years later, after moving the development from Ubisoft Mumbai to Ubisoft Montreal, we finally got an update.
Prince of Persia Remake Reaches Important Milestone
After Prince of Persia had to change developers a year ago, Ubisoft has been very quiet regarding the progress of the remake. But now, over three years after they announced the game, we finally got an update.
On November 21, the official Prince of Persia Twitter (X) account tweeted about an important internal milestone, that the project has now passed. They also confirmed that the development is progressing.

The details of this milestone aren't clear from their end. Considering the criticism of the game's graphics two years ago, one can hope they've spent this time improving visuals and are now moving into full production.
The significant milestone, could be that Ubisoft finished Asset Production, which is an essential and time-consuming step when developing AAA games.
Originally set for release on January 21, 2021, the Prince of Persia remake faced massive backlash due to disappointing visuals in their trailer. This lead to a significant delay and almost a complete restart when they moved the development from Ubisoft Mumbai to Montreal.
It's unlikely that the Montreal studio started everything from scratch though, instead they probably tried reusing core game mechanics and existing areas while putting their focus on these horrible graphics.
So many of us grew up with Prince of Persia: Sands of Time when it first came out in 2003. Therefore, this remake is connected with a lot of our childhood memories, and it would be a shame if it turned out to be a failure. I personally am happier with Ubisoft taking the time to work on this for years rather than rushing a disappointing product.
We hope that Ubisoft will enlighten us about the development progress of this remake soon, since it is a little out of the blue to announce a significant milestone and then leaving no explanation of what they actually achieved.
