Gen.G's young mid laner Chovy has been a staple in the League of Legends scene for years and with his entry to the LoL Worlds quarter-finals he's also broken a new record.
League of Legends is a cruel sport. While some players have their highs, others fail when it counts the most. One player who has probably received more backlash than others and hasn't had a smooth road in their career is none other than Jeong "Chovy" Ji-hoon.
Going into this year's World Championship, Gen.G are the clear favorites from the LCK, with only the LPL's JDG ranked higher. With Chovy making it to the quarter-finals with a clean 3-0 record he's also set a brand-new record.
LoL Worlds 2023: Chovy Sets Record For Most Playoff Appearances Back To Back
With the 2023 League of Legends World Championship moving into the knockout stage, all eyes are on the remaining eight teams. Gen.G and JDG managed a smooth run with 3-0 records, while all other competitors had to keep fighting for an entrance.
Chovy has always lived in the shadow of the greatest League player of all time, Lee "Faker" Sang-hyeok, but this year he stands at the forefront, representing the LCK as the best team. He's also the first player to ever make five straight World Championship playoffs.
His first Worlds' appearance came in 2019 with Team Griffin. From that squad almost all players managed to make it to the 2023 World Championship, with only the team's former bot laner Park "Viper" Do-hyeon missing out – but he did win Worlds in 2021 with EDG.
Chovy has since managed to make it to every single World Championship, no matter which team he was on. He's also made it to every single knockout round since then, something not even Faker has managed to do, with him missing the 2014 and 2018 World Championships.
Chovy and Gen.G will be playing against BiliBili Gaming in the quarter-finals on Friday, November 3, 2023. The winner will move on to the semi-finals to either play against Weibo gaming or NRG.
