Xbox Network is getting a new update that will delete any media (screenshots and videos) that users have stored on their servers.
On January 9, 2024, the Xbox Network starts to declutter Microsoft Servers by deleting media uploaded by users that is older than 90 days. That includes screenshots as well as video clips. So if you're attached to your nostalgic screenshots from playing Minecraft and Fallout: New Vegas ten years ago, you should quickly back up your data.

If you don't want your pics and videos to be deleted, we advise you to create a backup. There are different ways to do that.
Uploading media to OneDrive
If you don't want to clutter an external storage, you can save your screenshots and videos with another cloud service, such as OneDrive. Follow these steps:
- Press the Xbox Button to open the guide
- Go to My games & apps > See all > Apps > Captures
- Set filters to locate the captures you want to back up
- Select Manage and select the media you want to back up
- Choose Upload to OneDrive
If you want your media to be automatically uploaded to OneDrive do the following:
- Press the Xbox Button
- Go to Profile & System > Settings > Preferences > Capture & share > Automatic uploads
- Choose To OneDrive
Copying media to external storage
Of course, you can also just save your screenshots and videos on an external device.
Make sure that your USB drive is formatted as NTSF. You can't save your media on the same drive as your game files. For more information, visit the Xbox Support Page.
To save your media on an external device, stick to these steps:
- Press the Xbox button to open the guide
- Go to My games & apps > See all > Apps > Captures
- Set filters to locate the captures you want to back up
- Select Manage and select the media you want to back up
- Choose Copy to external storage
