The Gentlemen premiered on March 7 on Netflix. It wasn't simply an adaption of Guy Ritchie's film of the same name, but it followed the same rhythm. And a potential Season 2 is already being discussed! But what are the chances of that happening? Are they high? (Pun intended.)
Netflix allowed Guy Ritchie to indulge himself in one of the most Guy Richie projects yet: The Gentlemen. And to watch the show, you didn't even have to watch the movie first, so it was able to capture a whole new audience.
But let's be honest here – the story has potential to continue, right? Marc Helwig from Miramax – the production company behind The Gentlemen movie – has some exciting news to share on the topic.
There's An "Active Ongoing Discussion" About The Gentlemen Season 2
In an interview with Deadline, Helwig had some promising news to share regarding a potential renewal of The Gentlemen on Netflix. He said that The Gentlemen was planned as an ongoing series with the potential for multiple seasons. Asked about a possible season 2, Helwig said:
We have started that process. There are some writers we've talked to, certainly lots of discussion with Guy [Ritchie] about what he might want to do in a second season, what things to focus on. [The first season] has to perform, and then we'll know more. But it's been an active ongoing discussion already what a second season would be.
Tale as old as time, right? If The Gentlemen is a success on Netflix, Helwig can already picture the show to "spawn some kind of a universe, a Guy Ritchie world." He also pointed out that this could lead to another movie.
There's no confirmation from Netflix just yet, but that was to be expected. At the end of the day, they need to make sure the show is worth renewing. So far, the reviews are looking quite good with an 85% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
What Could The Gentlemen Season 2 Be About?
Spoiler warning: If you haven't finished The Gentlemen on Netflix, here's your exit!
Against all odds, Eddie managed to find his place in his new reality in the business. Susie is with him as always, even though they hit rough waters throughout the first season. That's a pretty good basis for season 2, though – there's tension there, alright.
Also, don't forget about Bobby and Stan. Susie's actress Kaya Scodelario already shared that she's worried the two of them could team up, and wouldn't that be juicy for a potential new season?
We also got a baby that's waiting to be delivered and a father to be found, so maybe Freddy will get into the joy of being an uncle. Wouldn't that be something?
At the end of the day, it'll be Netflix's call whether to continue the show or not. Fingers crossed! We'll keep you updated on that front, of course.
