This Valentine's Day, you may be planning to curl up in front of the TV. Whether you want to indulge in a PG-13 "Netflix and Chill session" with your sweetheart or go solo with a pint of cookie dough ice cream (my personal favorite), we've got you covered. Here are the top 5 movies for your evening.
It shouldn't matter, because there's no right or wrong time for love, but Valentine's Day is basically made for a romantic movie night. Or a night of anguish because love is like your father - absent. Take your pick! Or binge the new season of Love is Blind on Netflix which works for me, too! Here are the best Valentine's Day movies on Netflix.
Whatever the case may be, February 14 needs to be spent somehow, right? But don't worry: there's no need for picking the most cliché romantic movies (although it is kind of fun) and sometimes it's just nice to not scroll through the endless selection of shows and movies but let someone else make the choice for you. Hello, I'm here to help.
The Top 5 Netflix Movies To Watch On Valentine's Day
Depending on your location, your selection might vary – personally, I'm gonna watch Pretty Woman on Valentine's Day because if there is one thing that makes me happy in this world, it's Julia Roberts having her glorious moment with the mean saleswomen at the boutique. In general, not watching Pretty Woman on a regular basis is a big mistake. Big! HUGE!
But I digress – here are five more solid picks to spend your Valentine's Day with.
No Hard Feelings
I might be biased on this one (I am a Jennifer Lawrence girl, after all), but No Hard Feelings is the perfect movie for a fun little excursion into the world of fake relationships. JLaw plays Maddie, a woman in desperate need for a new car, striking a deal with Percy's (Andrew Barth Feldman) helicopter parents to get him out of his shell by pretending to be attracted to him before he goes of to college.
Thing is: he's a sweet guy. Maddie, on the other hand, is a handful. The movie's fun, it's over the top, it has wholesome moments and it has its scenes where it goes straight into the feels.
Love At First Sight
Okay, let's do a little bit of cliché romance here. But also not really? Anyway: Hadley and Oliver meet by pure chance on their flight to London and hit it right off, exchanging numbers when it's time to go their separate ways for the time being. Except the number's lost, because Hadley is Hadley, and meeting up again seems impossible.
But it isn't. I'm not gonna spoil anything, but the movie's sweet, it's funny and wholesome and at times sad in all the right ways.
Already seen it? Wanna give the book a try? And: yes, of course it's better. Check it out.
To All The Boys I've Loved Before
You up for some teenage drama? I've got some teenage drama for you. Sometimes it's just fun to embrace the cringe that is puberty, and To All The Boys I've Loved Before perfectly caters to that desire.
Lara Jean is a shy girl in high school who copes with crushes by writing letters to the boys she likes, but never sending them. She just keeps them in her room, never to be seen by anyone. Of course, because it's a movie, the letters find their way to the recipients anyway. Not ideal for Lara Jean by any means, but she still gets a fake relationship out of it. But... how fake is it, really?
Tick, Tick... Boom!
Not exactly a typical pick, if I do say so myself. Not romantic at all, some might say. It's a musical film with Andrew Garfield, based on the story of the composer Jonathan Larson. Jonathan has a passion project going on, his musical Superbia and he spends every waking minute working on it. His relationships suffer, but all the while, he copes with songs about his misfortunes.
If you're not one that's into clichés and doesn't need inherently romantic movies for Valentine's Day, you might want to give Tick, Tick... Boom! a try.
Your Place Or Mine
Here's the last one: Your Place or Mine. And I'm gonna be honest, I am but a simple girl: I see Ashton Kutcher and it's an instant recommendation. Sue me. Here's the logline:
Debbie (Reese Witherspoon) and Peter (Ashton Kutcher) are best friends and total opposites. She craves routine with her son in LA; he thrives on change in NY. When they swap houses and lives for a week they discover what they think they want might not be what they really need.
One of those five movies should definitely do the trick – enjoy your Valentine's Day!
