How do hitboxes work in League of Legends and on which champions are they broken?
In League of Legends Patch 12.4 we got some changes to support items due to enchanters owning the top lane, and Zeri got a rework only a few weeks after her release. We're not here to talk about buffs and nerfs, though, we're here to tackle a whole different beast.
One thing that is finally getting fixed is Neeko's hitbox. She's being forced to go to fat camp and honestly, Neeko mains can finally rejoice! Her hitbox has been cut almost a third of what it was before. But what does this mean for Neeko, and what even is a hitbox in League of Legends?
What Is The Champion Hitbox In League of Legends?
The hitbox, also called "Gameplay Radius" or "Size" shows how large an object within a game is. This means you'll know how likely you are to be hit by skillshots and abilities.
On principle, you'll have to remember that the bigger the hitbox, the more likely it is to be hit by skillshots. Since you've got various champions of forms and sizes, you've also got a multitude of hitboxes in League of Legends.
Which Champions Have the Biggest Hitboxes in League of Legends?
The maximum hitbox size which you can achieve is 172. It is extremely rare that you'll ever reach this number, though. It belongs to none other than a fully-stacked Cho'Gath, after he's devoured three meals and made a pit stop at McDonald's.
The hitbox for normal champions is put into different categories. The smallest belongs to none other than the cute Yordles with a smol gameplay radius of 55. Oh... and Warwick… Vander, explain why you're so slim all of a sudden?
The next hitbox size is 65. This is the 'normal' size for most champions, but there are a few anomalies on the rift as well... like Ivern who has a hitbox of 70. Odd.
Then we have the beefy boys. Galio, Urgot, and Gragas are some of the champions with a hitbox of 80! This is the biggest champions can get, right?
Can The Hitbox be Influenced Throughout The Game?
Yes, the hitbox can be influenced. There is an in-game tool in League of Legends with which you can make your champion bigger. We've already mentioned Cho'Gath's feast – his ultimate – and well, this is the most prominent way to update your hitbox during the game.
Otherwise, you can also look to Lulu's ultimate which can also boost your hitbox to the heavens and back. Gargoyle's Stoneplate will also increase your hitbox by 25%, Elixir of Iron for 15% and Frostfire Gauntlet up to 30%. Well, then you can do the math to see just how beefy Cho'Gath can be at the end of a game.
Do Skins Increase A Champions Hitbox?
The short answer? No. Though your champion will look different, this will not influence the hitbox of your champions. No matter how cute the outfit, your champion size will stay the same.
Alright, guys, now you've got the formula for the ultimate monster Cho'Gath, so go out and try him out in the top lane! If you're not a top laner, then give the newest support champion – Renata Glasc – a try before the Void takes over League of Legends.
