League of Legends: Riot Answers Why We Didn't Get Nexus Blitz in 2022

Nexus Blitz is the one rotating game mode we have in League of Legends that truly shakes things up. Riot promised we'd get it in 2022, but it's been a year and we're still waiting. Finally it's revealed why we didn't get this rotating game mode this year.

Riot had ample opportunity to grace us with Nexus Blitz in 2022, but every single time it seemed like the 'perfect' opportunity, the fans had to make due with a different rotating game mode. Nexus Blitz is unique since it's the only mode that isn't played on the Summoner's Rift map and fans want some variety in their lives.

At the start of the year it was promised that this game mode would be coming back to the client, but as 2022 is coming to an end, not a single shred of hope is left that we will ever get this game mode again... now, Riot finally explained why it's been absent.

Nexus Blitz Absent in 2022: Due to Internal Error

The League of Legends Dev Twitter relayed some key information to fans, regarding the rotating game modes and why we didn't get Nexus Blitz a single time, while things like URF, ARURF and Ultimate Spellbook littered the client. Well, it seems like Nexus Blitz fans might have to wait a little longer.

While we previously announced that we would end the year with Nexus Blitz, we’re not going to be able to bring it back at this time. Unfortunately pieces of the NB UI experience were broken by unrelated work on a different part of the game.

Yes, some of the design of the map seems to have been broken by other work that had been done. It was not specified what it was that has broken and how it has happened, though the dev Twitter did explain that they would release a blog with more details and information at the beginning of 2023.

Okay, no Nexus Blitz... but will the Victorious skin be able to make up for this?

It was also explained that some of the people who had been working on Nexus Blitz have left the League team since then and that the new staff still need to be onboarded so they can fix these issues... and we all know what a spaghetti code League is running on so it might take a while to fix this mess.

Riot Prioritized ARAM Fixes

It was also mentioned that the updates to the ARAM map and the experience of this constant game mode came before the update and fix to the Nexus Blitz map. This, of course, makes sense since ARAM is a constant game mode and balancing ARAM should be more important.

With the new ARAM changes on live servers with LoL Patch 12.23, we could see the team shift focus to start working on Nexus Blitz. Maybe we will get to play some NB in 2023? Or maybe Riot is going to finally bring back Dominion or one of the PvE game modes?
