It hasn't been long since the newest League of Legends game mode had been announced. Riot have revealed that blind pick is one of the least played game modes and have been working on a new one to replace it – Quick Play.

This was months ago though and since then nothing else has been revealed, so fans are wondering whatever happened to Quick Play. Thankfully Riot have responded and given some insights into the new game mode.

Quick Play is going to be a brand-new game mode that Riot is going to introduce to League of Legends. This mode will also replace Blind Pick, which is the least played mode in the game.

In Quick Play, players will choose champions and a role before queuing up and then be put into teams with other players who chose different roles. This is a similar construct to the previously known "Team Builder" which had been a game mode from Riot in the past.

Quick Play was even tested out on some smaller servers, but since then nothing new has been revealed. Thankfully the initial Reddit thread asking for news did go viral and a Rioter did see it and responded.

We were hoping to get Quick Play out before the midyear patch but weren't quite able to finish before we had to pivot to Emerald and other ranked Split 2 stuff, so we'll be picking it back up shortly and plan to get it out later this year.

Sadly, it seems like we will have to wait another few months until Quick Play is going to be added to every live server, but from what Riot Auberaun explained, the initial tests on the smaller servers were pretty positive, after they managed to fix their queue issues.

As mentioned, the way Quick Play will work is similar to Team Builder, but what was this game mode exactly and what do you have to look forward to?

Team Builder was introduced by Riot Games as an alternative matchmaking system to the traditional blind pick and draft pick modes. It allowed players to choose their preferred role (such as top lane, mid lane, jungle, bot lane, or support) before entering the queue.

The primary purpose of Team Builder was to provide players with more control over their in-game experience by allowing them to preselect their desired champion and role. This system aimed to reduce conflicts during champion select and improve team composition by ensuring that each team had a balanced distribution of roles.

Although Team Builder provided benefits in terms of role selection and reducing conflicts, it was eventually retired by Riot Games in 2016. The company stated that maintaining multiple queues for different game modes created longer queue times and negatively impacted matchmaking quality.

This time though, Riot is going to be removing Blind Pick in favor of bringing in Quick Play, so hopefully there won't be too many issues with queue options for players.
