Riot Games just announced the release of their first novel "Ruination" which will feature champions like Kalista.
For everyone who enjoys some League of Legends lore and has a love for books, then sit tight, because League of Legends is expanding their universe beyond that of the computer screen. There have been comics, webtoons and even Nintendo Switch games, and now we’re getting a whole novel.
Last year, we explored Runeterra through the eyes of the Sentinels of Light as they had to stop the dark mist and Viego from running over the entire world, and while the overall event wasn’t as cohesive as many had wished, it still brought fans closer to lore. Now, we’re getting over 400 pages of lore.
What Is Ruination About?
In a tweet, William Camacho, Books Category Manager at Riot Games, explained that this book will tell the story of the initial ruination and won’t be too closely tied to the events of the Sentinels of Light event.
Therefore, they set out to tell the story of the Ruination. He stated that books take a long time to make, and therefore, decided against a plot closely related to the in-game event. That’s how the story of the Ruination was chosen.
This means that one of the main characters of this book is going to be none other than Kalista, who plays an integral part in the Ruination event. Many fans felt that she was neglected throughout the Sentinels of Light event, but this novel seems to make up for the lack of Kalista.
When Will The Ruination Be Released?
The novel was initially supposed to be released closer to the release of the Sentinels of Light event, but to tell a better story, Riot has decided to take their time. To have the best experience with the book, Riot pushed it back to September 2022.
Ruination is going to be available in physical form, digital as well as audio for everyone to enjoy. Ruination will be published by Orbit. The book took years to produce, write and edit, but a year after the initial Sentinels of Light event, it is confirmed to finally be released.

Who Is The Author of Ruination?
Principal writer at Riot Games, Anthony Reynolds, wrote Ruination. This isn’t the first thing he’s published for Riot Games though, Garen: First Shield, a novella, was published in 2020. He also has multiple other published books.
