LoL Patch 12.19: Syndra Mid-Scope Update Announced

Syndra was announced to get a mid-scope update in the August champion roadmap. Now Riot is finally revealing more information on when and what they're changing on her kit exactly.

Syndra has been in a tough spot the last few patches. She has barely seen much play, hasn't gotten over the 50% win rate mark either and each patch her name was left off of the buff list. Fans were outraged, until they found out she would be getting a mid-scope update.

Finally, we got some news on this update, like what they're going to change and how Syndra should improve in the future. So hopefully she will become great again, because with a new Spirit Blossom skin on the horizon, she deserves to thrive.

Syndra Mid-Scope Update: Ability Changes

Let's go over the long list of changes to her kit. Each of her abilities will be updated to fit into the current state of League of Legends more and even her base stats are being adjusted accordingly.

Riot TheTruexy explained on Twitter that they're trying to shift some more power into Syndra's W when ranked up, while also making her E much easier to use in the early stages of the game. But enough chit-chat let's go over every single change right now.

AbilityChanges
Transcendent (P)
  • Syndra collects up to 120 Spliners via damaging enemy champions and gaining levels. Splinters of Wrath enhance Syndra and her abilities
  • Syndra Restores 20-215 (based on level 1-18) mana whenever she collects a Splinter from an enemy. She can gain Splinters via:
    • Damaging an enemy champion with 2 Abilities within 4 seconds grants (1/2/3 at levels 1, 11 and 18) Splinters (8s CD per target)
    • Leveling up grants Syndra 5 SPlinters of Wrath
    • Killing a Cannon minion grants 1 Splinters of Wrath
  • At 120 Splinters Syndra gains 15% total AP
  • Ability icons also change with upgrade
Base Stats
  • Base Health: 593 --> 563
Dark Sphere (Q)
  • Cooldown: 4s --> 7s
  • AP Ratio: 65% --> 70%
  • Mana Cost: 40/50/60/70/80 --> 40/45/50/55/60
  • 40 Splinters of Wrath: Dark Sphere can store 2 charges (1.25s CD between casts)
Force of Will (W)
  • Sphere Pickup Detection Radius: 400 --> 450
  • Now prevents non-Sphere units from dying for a brief period when picked up
  • 60 Splinters of Wrath: Force of Will does an additional 15%(1.5% per 100 AP) true damage
Scatter the Weak (E)
  • Magic Damage: 85-265(+60%AP) --> 75-235(+55%AP)
  • Scatter Angle: 34 degrees --> 56 degrees
  • Cooldown: 18-14s --> 15s
  • Stun Duration: 1.5s --> 1.25s
  • Reduced failure chances of close range E>Q combo
  • 80 Splinters of Wrath: Scatter the Weak's cone is increased (56 deg --> 84 deg) and also slows enemies by 70% for 1.25s (applied after initial CC)
Unleashed Power (R)
  • Grant Dark Sphere (Q) an additional 10/20/30 Ability Haste
  • Damage per Sphere: 90/140/190(+20%AP) --> 90/130/170(+17%AP)
  • 100 Splinters of Wrath: Executes champions below 15% max health

Now that is a lot to read, but it seems that Riot have completely reworked her passive for this mid-scope update. You'll be looking to pick up those Splinters to try and get those added bonus stats onto your abilities.

The execute on her ultimate might seem excessive, but her ultimate deals less damage in this iteration and even in her current state she can use all her combos and the opponents can still come out alive at the end.

Syndra Mid-Scope Update Release

This mid-scope update has been added to the PBE cycle for LoL Patch 12.19 so we expect these changes to go live then. Though, ahead of the Olaf mid-scope update we got to test it for an additional PBE patch before it hit live servers, so the same could happen here.
