According to a new report, the next mainline Call of Duty, Black Ops Gulf War, is set to release in October 2024 and will feature an open-world campaign.
Call of Duty Black Ops Gulf War, the next mainline title in the long-running series, will feature an open-world campaign and is targeting a release in October 2024. This was claimed by Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson.
According to the report, the next Call of Duty will build upon the approach in last year’s Modern Warfare 3, which features more open levels that allowed for different approaches, and further push CoD in an open-world direction.
Call of Duty Black Ops Gulf War To Release In October, Feature Open-World Campaign
Unlike in the previous game, Black Ops Gulf War has been built from the ground up with this idea in mind. Henderson, who is a trusted voice in terms of Call of Duty insider information, describes the game’s open-world as “more akin to that of Far Cry than anything we’ve seen before in the Call of Duty universe.”
The game will feature vehicles and a fast travel system to maneuver the map. Despite embracing an open world, the game is set to still feature linear missions in typical Call of Duty fashion.
This development will apparently not stop at Black Ops Gulf War. According to Henderson’s sources, the series will keep leaning “into more open-world campaigns over linear moving forward”. The Call of Duty game planned for 2025 is supposed to follow a similar playbook.
