"Mufasa: The Lion King" is gonna be the prequel to the live-action movie of "The Lion King " from 2019. Since then, we got a brand-new and modern look for one of the most popular animated movies made by Disney. And soon, we will find out a bit more about Mufasa, but also his younger brother Scar.

Mufasa: The Lion King | Release Date & Plot
Release in December
Sadly, we don't have an official trailer for the upcoming movie yet. However, we already know that the prequel is going to release on December 20, 2024.
Possible Plot
Since "Mufasa: The Lion King" is going to be based on the book "A Tale of Two Brothers", it will tell the story of Mufasa and Scar when they were young princes.
In a battle against a buffalo, we will also see how Scar got his, well, scar in his face. Scar will have two sides in the movie: one side will show how adorable and sweet he can actually be, but on the other we'll get to know his extremely deceitful nature.
We also already got a first impression of the movie at the D23 Expo, where Mufasa was shown on his way to the pride lands. As a child, he was left perilous by a devastating storm surge and was thus on his own much sooner than other member of his species.
Kelvin Harrison Jr., the voice actor for Scar, also confirmed that both brothers are supposed to get the same amount of screen time, so don't get fooled by the title of the movie. On top of that, director Berry Jenkins also said that the movie has bigger ambitions than just being a prequel. Therefore, we can expect not only the prequel of the "The Lion King", but also some info about the later storyline of the original movie.
Mufasa: The Lion King | Confirmed Cast
Next to Calvin Harrison Jr. as Scar, Aaron Pierre take the role as the Lion King Mufasa. Hakuna Matata! Timon and Pumbaa are also going to have their comeback, voiced by Seth Rogen and Bill Eichner just like in "The Lion King". Another character confirmed for the cast is the wise shaman Rafiki voiced by John Connie.
