The new Marvel action-adventure will pit a young Captain America against T’Challa’s granddad in WW2 Paris.
It was announced a few years back that a new game featuring Captain America and Black Panther was in development at Skydance Studios. All we knew at the time was that the team helmed by Uncharted co-creator Amy Hennig.
The game has now been officially revealed with a story trailer at the State of Unreal showcase from March 2024. It will be called "Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra", and it should come out in 2025.
The game is set in occupied Paris during World War 2 and while we didn’t get the full setup yet, it looks like Cap and Panther (who is not T’Challa, but instead his grandfather Azzuri) clash while independently investigating the wrongdoings of Hydra. The game will also feature two original characters: US soldier Gabriel Jones and Wakandan spy Nanali. While all four main characters will be playable, Rise of Hydra will not be a multiplayer game.
Rise of Hydra Looks Stunning
The story trailer is focused on introducing the characters and the world of the game, but it also shows us a little gameplay. You see brief sequences of Black Panther sneaking through enemy encampments before Captain America bashes some fools with his iconic shield. But that was really it for gameplay.
One thing can already be said for certain about Rise of Hydra: It looks astonishingly good. The game runs on the latest version of Unreal Engine 5 and utilizes the MetaHuman Animator technology to make its characters look almost life-like. This is definitely shaping up to be an impressive blockbuster of a game in terms of production values and audiovisual quality.
Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra will release in 2025. Neither the platforms nor the exact release date have been confirmed yet, but we expect it to be a great promo for the upcoming PS5 Pro.
