A reliable insider revealed the full hardware specs for the PlayStation 5 Pro. The mid-cycle refresh is set to improve performance across the board – except in one key area.
While Sony hasn’t officially announced a PlayStation 5 Pro yet, rumors about a stronger version of the console have been around for years. Recently, the rumor mill has been on fire again, as more and more details have been seemingly revealed online.
Now, the reliable insider Tom Henderson published a report on Insider Gaming, which apparently reveals the full hardware specifications of the PlayStation 5 Pro. The mid-cycle refresh is set to significantly improve upon the PlayStation 5 in terms of performance, but fans might be disappointed by some of the specs.
PS5 Pro Hardware Specs Leaked
According to Henderson, who claims to have access to documentation for third-party developers through anonymous sources, the main improvements of the PlayStation 5 Pro will come from the System Memory and the GPU. The former is supposed to be 28% faster than in the standard console, with a reading speed of 576 GB per second from originally 448 GB.
The GPU is set to be “rendering 45% faster than PS5”. This seems to be one of the main selling points of the beefed-up console, together with the increased focus on Ray Tracing. RT performance is set to be up to four times faster than on the standard PS5.
With PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution Upscaling (PSSR), the new console is also including an internally-developed AI upscaling solution, which is expected to work similarly to Nvidia’s DLSS or AMD’s FSR. These improvements are promising higher and more stable FPS while gaming at 4K resolution.
One disappointment in here comes in form of the CPU. This seems to be the same one as in the normal PS5, bar a new “High CPU Frequency”, which can increase the performance by 10% to 3.85GHz. Considering that the CPU is an annoying bottleneck for games like Baldur’s Gate 3, the lack of a considerable upgrade here is disappointing.
3D Audio is also bound to get better here, which shouldn’t be too surprising. The console will launch with 1 Terabyte internal storage and a detachable Blu-Ray drive, just like the Slim variant. The PS5 Pro is expected to launch in Fall 2024, so an official announcement should be held in the next few months.
