Critical Role's Daggerheart may not be released until 2025, but you can test the game much earlier!
Some might argue that they are the reason why tabletop RPGs have experienced a resurgence in today's time. Critical Role is a group of professional voice actors who have been playing Dungeons & Dragons campaigns under the direction of Matthew Mercer since 2015, entertaining audiences with incredibly engaging live streams and videos.
Since 2020, there has even been Critical Role's own tabletop game publisher called Darrington Press, which develops and distributes its own role-playing systems and games. Daggerheart, an RPG system designed for long campaigns and rich character progression, is set to be released in 2025. However, those eager to get an early look should pay close attention now.
Daggerheart Open Beta Playtest Starts Soon
Similar to video games, there are also alpha and beta testing phases for tabletop games. Especially for complex games, those playtests are of great importance to iron out logic errors, soft locks, and other issues. Starting from March 12, you can participate in the public playtest of Daggerheart, and you don't even have to do much for it.
You can download all the necessary materials for playing as PDFs from the Daggerheart website, print them out, and get started. You also find more information about the type of the game, for example the hope and fear system, and cards helping you to build your hero.
You won't be left alone, as videos will be uploaded to the Critical Role YouTube channel starting from March 12 to assist you on your journey. If you don't want or can't play yourself, simply tune in to the livestream of the Critical Role cast on the evening of March 12, as they will also participate in the playtest. The stream starts at 7pm PT / 3am GMT / 10pm EST on Twitch and YouTube.
