Dead Space 2 Remake Reportedly Dead And Alive

Have you ever heard of Schrödinger's cat? It is a thought experiment that suggests that a cat in a closed box can be both alive and dead at the same time, until observed. Yep, that is pretty much the state the Dead Space 2 remake is in right now.

Speculation about the cancellation of the Dead Space 2 remake has sparked controversy. Electronic Arts has denied claims from an insider about Dead Space 2 Remake being canceled, making for an uncomfortable and confusing situation..

Dead Space 2 Remake Rumors: EA Denies Insider Claims

Development on the remake of Dead Space 2 has been halted due to sluggish sales of the Dead Space remake, according to journalist Jeff Grubb. In a recent statement, Grubb expressed his concerns, stating "If you were looking forward to Dead Space 2, it's bad news. It's straight up just bad news."

He claimed that the game was in concept and pre-production before it was canceled. Surprisingly, Electronic Arts responded by stating, "We typically do not comment on rumors, but there is no truth to this story."

Grubb stands by his claim despite EA's denial, adding, "You can choose to believe EA if you wish, but when a company says, 'That's not true,' without specifying which part of the story they're referring to... well."

Bloomberg's Jason Schreier has now also weighed in on the matter, stating that the Dead Space franchise is now "officially on ice" for the second time.

As you can see, it's a bit of a strange back-and-forth situation here. I suggest you do not open the box containing Schrödinger's Dead Space. As long as it is closed, it is not canceled. But also not in development.

However, it does indeed not look great for a Dead Space 2 Remake. Not only are the reports of the game being on ice credible, the studio behind the first game's remake, EA Motive, has recently been moved to the development of the upcoming Battlefield game. While the first remake didn't sell badly, it also didn't sell the world on fire and now it looks like the studio has been sent to the Battlefield mines. None of this makes me confident that the cat is still alive, so I choose to just leave the box closed and to keep believing in a Dead Space 2 Remake...
