Konami has launched its own anime studio, stoking for more anime adaptations based on their games.
Konami covers a wide spectrum in the entertainment industry, ranging from horror games like Silent Hill to action titles like Metal Gear, and even trading card games such as Yu-Gi-Oh. It's hard to miss the Japanese company if you're into pop culture. So far, the production of anime based on Konami's IPs has been outsourced to other studios. However, this is about to change.
Konami Animation Has Been Launched
The revelation took place over the weekend with the formal announcement of Konami Animation, accompanied by the launch of an official website. This move allows Konami to internally produce animation content instead of relying on external production studios. The studio will also open doors for the team to contribute to external productions, such as the opening of Reign of the Seven Spellblades, that you can watch on the website.
In addition to the intro, you can marvel at a video celebrating the 25th anniversary of Yu-Gi-Oh on the website and on YouTube. This provides a glimpse of the studio's capabilities.
The success of Netflix's anime adaptation Castlevania demonstrated that the stories Konami tells through its games can work in the form of anime. With the in-house animation studio, we hope that other IPs will also get the chance to captivate audiences who may not be as into video games as we are. The Metal Gear series and Silent Hill are already renowned for their immersive and captivating storytelling.
I must admit, I'm also curious to see what Pyramid Head would look like in an anime.
