The Pokémon Company gave out a special edition Pikachu hat for visitors to the van Gogh x Pokémon exhibition, but had to stop the promotion due to scalpers. Now the card is going to be added back, but it won't be a free add-on this time.
Just a few months ago, the van Gogh museum in Amsterdam opened their Pokémon x van Gogh exhibit. The exhibit was well-received, but the whole experience was marred with bad press thanks to scalpers who couldn't wait to get their hands on exclusive content to re-sell for disgustingly inflated prices.
The museum even had to stop giving out the iconic Pikachu in a Grey Felt Hat card to visitors because of these scalpers. But now it's been revealed that the card is going to be made more widely available.
Infamous Pikachu Card Is Finding A New Home
The infamous Pikachu in a Grey Felt Hat card was removed from the van Gogh museum as an add-on for those who went to the exhibit. Instead, the Pokémon company decided to sell the card through Hobby stores in the Netherlands, but this release was also botched... once again by scalpers.
According to pokebeach, there was evidence that local stores were pre-selling the exclusive card under the table. So now, a new method of bringing this card to the public has been revealed.

This time around, the card is going to be sold in larger chain stores, with over 100,000 copies of the card expected to be printed. The card will cost around €30 and hopefully the increase in distribution and print will also lessen the card's value for resellers.
The promotion of the special Pikachu card should start February 10, 2024. So if you're in the Netherlands, make sure to check out electronics and gaming stores like Media Markt or Game Mania to see if the card is available.
