Persona 3 Reload has once again garnered a lot of positive attention, but fans are still eagerly awaiting one thing: An official announcement about Persona 6.

They have been patiently waiting for another installment in the mainline series amidst all the other additions, like Persona 5 Tactica or the Episode Aigis announcement for Persona 3 Relaod.

So far, Atlus only gave a small hint for Persona 6 and official announcements are limited. But let's take a look at everything we know so far.

Leak: Persona 6 To Launch On Xbox And Switch 2

While Persona 5 initially only released on PlayStation, Persona 3 Reload received a multiplatform release. Now, two leakers have revealed that Persona 6 is also set to release on multiple platforms.

Business Insider NateTheHate mentioned an Xbox release on the Spawncast podcast "DirectXbox," which was confirmed by Atlus leaker Midori on Twitter. They said that Persona 6 will not only be available on Xbox but also on the Switch 2.

Both leakers are well-known in the gaming community and have shared reliable information multiple times, so we can assume that Persona 6 will indeed not be a PlayStation exclusive title. However, whether the game will be available on all platforms on the day of release is still unclear.

Persona 6 Leaks Speak Of Semi-Open World And More Fluid Social System

Recent leaks about Persona 6 reveal exciting new features, including a semi-open world set in a school environment and enhanced social links system. Notable leaker "Head on the Block," previously known as "Im a Hero Too," shared this information on Reset Era.

According to them, the game will maintain its high school roots, emphasizing "high school nostalgia." With the introduction of a semi-open world, players can anticipate a broader gameplay experience centered around the familiar setting. Additionally, Persona 6's Social Links are said to be more interactive.

Social links are much more "fluid" for the next game. You can interact more and most stuff isn't timed but it's a huge part of the series.

Given the series' focus on Social Links and the high school setting, these updates align well with the franchise's established themes.

Persona 6 Could Be A New Beginning For The Series

Midori shared, yet again, some new information about the Persona franchise on Twitter. A while ago, they talked about the sixth mainline game in the series and claimed:

Persona 6 could be different in a lot of ways, because it's being developed by mostly new Persona team staff.

That indicates some senior Persona staff members aren't involved in the actual development. Or they are rather supervising the younger team?

Did Persona 6 Get A Code Name From Atlus?

Developers often give secret code names to their projects. It seems like Atlus isn't any different in this regard. Twitter user "MbKKssTBhz5" claimed the secret Persona 6 name is "Carbon".

It is indeed possible, since "Carbon" is also the sixth element in the periodic table. In case you're curious: Persona 5 Strikers had a code name too! The name for the action role-playing game was "Masquerade".

Colorful Visual Design

You may be wondering why visual design and color are important topics in Persona. In the previous installments, the design had always a general color theme with complex meaning behind it.

  • Persona 3, with its melancholic and sad world, got the color blue.
  • Persona 4 is cheerful and dramatic and the yellow color was used to symbolize hope.
  • Persona 5's prominent color is red. It stands for the courage, passion, but also danger and anger.

We will definitely get a fresh and creative perspective in the next installment, with the iconic and prominent color choices at its core. With the 25th anniversary illustration from Persona we may even get a hint for the next color?

This is just speculation at this point, but it's interesting seeing the bucket full of green color next to Joker, the protagonist from Persona 5. Thinking about it, the color green indicates a new beginning and growth, also the lack of experience and envy. It's just a theory, but we are definitely onto something here, right?

Our prominent leaker friend "I'm a Hero Too" revealed some additional information surrounding the colorful approach of Persona 6. Apparently, the main theme from the game changed to Black/White instead of Green. However, the color green should still be present in the game, it seems the focus is set for a different approach.

In color psychology, black stands for mystery, power, elegance and sophistication, but also sadness and anger. While the color white stands for purity, innocence but also coldness, emptiness, simplicity.

I see a lot of potential in these two colors and a great approach from a psychological perspective.

Persona 6 Release Date

With every major gaming event in 2023 so far having come and gone without even so much as a hint towards a Persona 6 announcement, the previous claims by leakers that the game will be releasing in 2024 seem pretty hard to believe at this point. Persona games usually have pretty long marketing lead-ups, after all!

And with the release of Persona 3 Reload in February and Metaphor: ReFantazio officially set for a release in 2024, I really can't see where Atlus could squeeze in a release as big as Persona 6 in 2024. It's most likely we get the game in 2025 or later. Ouch.

In fact, "MbKKssTBhz5" claimed in a recent tweet that Persona 6 is scheduled to be released in 2025 at this point, and that a reveal time for the game is still being decided on internally. So you should expect the game to be announced sometime in 2024 and released in 2025.

That said, it's also possible that the game will be pushed back to 2026, considering that Persona's 30th anniversary is also in 2026. It makes a lot more sense for the team to take their time and launch the game in time for the celebrations, rather than rushing it for 2025.
