Respawn (Apex Legends, Star Wars Jedi) is working on a first-person shooter focused on a Mandalorian bounty hunter.
According to a new report from Insider Gaming, Respawn Entertainment is working on a first-person Star Wars game where players will take control of a Mandalorian bounty hunter.
After creating very successful games in the Star Wars franchise with Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order and Jedi: Survivor, this would be Respawn’s next foray into the Sci-Fi universe. This time, they’re set to go back to their main strengths as one of the strongest developers for first-person games.
Respawn Is Making A Single Player Star Wars Shooter
It was already leaked way back in June 2022 that Respawn was working on three Star Wars games, which included Jedi: Survivor, a strategy game and a single player FPS. This Mandalorian game seems to be said shooter and we finally got first concrete information on it.
According to the report by Tom Henderson, the game will be centered around a Mandalorian bounty hunter who goes on jobs to capture targets dead or alive in exchange for money. The campaign is apparently focusing on a linear experience with set levels, instead of an open world approach. Previously, it has been suggested that the game would take inspiration from the classic Star Wars Jedi Knight titles, which were also linear (and amazing).
The gameplay is described by sources as “very fast-paced” and will feature high mobility and style, thanks to the Mandalorian’s jetpack. This feature is set to allow dashes, vertical jumps, slides and much more. Respawn is the king of high-mobility shooters (btw, please bring back Titanfall, thank you), so you can expect that this part of the game will be incredibly fun.
The story will be set “during the time when the Galactic Empire is dominating across the galaxy”, but it’s not clear yet where exactly within the Star Wars timeline the game will fit into. The game seems to be a single player title, but leaks have suggested that a multiplayer mode could be included.
It is also not clear, whether the game will have any connection to the Disney+ show The Mandalorian, which is set to continue as a movie in 2026. Either way, the release of the game might coincide with the movie, as Respawn’s production will take “still a year or two, at the very least” to be completed.
