The latest news about Subnautica 2 has left the community with some questions. The developers have opened up about their plans and at least cleared up some concerns.
Krafton's latest earnings call brought new information about Subnautica 2. Besides the debut of multiplayer features, the most important change will be the transition to a Games-as-a-Service model.
Krafton, Inc. is a South Korean video game holding company. It was established in 2007 and is best known for its development of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG).
While the community feared things like Battle Passes or other subscription models and a never-ending addition of cosmetics, the developers, Unknown Worlds, have cleared the air with a statement about Subnautica 2.
Subnautica 2 As 'Games As A Service Game': Devs With Statement About Early Access Release, Multiplayer, And Subscriptions
In the game Subnautica, players find themselves stranded on an alien ocean planet with only a lifepod and basic supplies at their disposal. The primary objective is survival, exploration, and ultimately escape.
Players must navigate the diverse underwater environments, from shallow coral reefs to dark, treacherous depths, while managing vital resources such as food, water, and oxygen.
The developers revealed that Subnautica 2 will not be entering Early Access in 2024, but promised that more information will be coming later this year.
They also explained:
"We plan to continually update the game for many years to come, just like the previous two Subnautica games. Think our Early Access update model, expanded. No season passes. No battle passes. No subscription. The game is not multiplayer-focused. Co-op will be an entirely optional way to play the game. You’ll be able to enjoy the game as a single-player."
In summary:1 Early Access is not intended for release in 2024, but we plan to share a lot more information later this year!

Subnautica's narrative-driven first installment revealed its story through environmental clues, audio logs, and interactions with other survivors, immersing players in the mysteries of the alien ocean world on which they were stranded.
The standalone expansion, Below Zero, introduced new characters and expanded the adventure, but some fans were disappointed with the quality of the dialogue and story.
Whether Subnautica 2 will live up to expectations remains to be seen.
