The next Pokémon game has just been revealed, and it's going to be called "Legends Z-A". All we know so far is that it's going to be set in Kalos, which is basically Pokémon's interpretation of France.
That, ladies and gentlemen, is the next Pokémon game, "Pokémon Legends: Z-A". And if you can't already tell, we hate the title. But ultimately, the name isn't important; we care far more about what this game is and whether it's going to be any good.
It's not actually a surprise that we're getting a Pokémon reveal this week, but many of us were led astray by rumors of the next game being a remaster of Pokémon Gold and Silver. This "leak" turns out to have been incorrect. Instead, we're getting the next Pokémon Legends game, which is the ninth-generation of Pokémon titles. Let's hope they can do a lot better than they did with Pokémon Legends: Arceus (which was laughably bad).
What Do We Know About Pokémon Legends: Z-A
So far, all we can deduce from the trailer is the location. Pokémon Legends: Z-A is set in the Kalos region, inspired by France and originally introduced in the 2013 video games Pokémon X and Y.
Specifically, and as show in the trailer, the game unfolds in Lumiose City, which is based on Paris. Nintendo subsequently confirmed that the entire game will take place within Lumiose City.
From the lore of Pokémon, we already know a few things about Lumiose.
Lumiose City is a bustling urban hub heavily inspired by the picturesque city of Paris, France. Its sprawling layout encompasses various districts, each contributing to its lively atmosphere. At its heart stands Prism Tower, a magnificent structure reminiscent of the iconic Eiffel Tower, serving as a central landmark and hosting numerous events.
Throughout the city, there are charming cafés and bustling markets, which offer a plethora of Pokémon-related merchandise. Transportation options, including taxis and the Lumiose City Tram, facilitate navigation through its expansive streets.
And within its bounds, one can encounter the Electric-type Gym Leader, Clemont.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A is set in a futuristic version of Lumiose, but we expect much of this to be the same.
