Even though the first Uncharted movie received a lot of negative reviews, an Uncharted sequel seems to be in the works. Why would they pursue another film? Simple: the first film's financial success. It bagged a cool $400 million worldwide on a $120 million budget. That kind of box office return makes a sequel tempting for any studio, even if the critics despised it.

Steven O’Dell, president of international distribution, confirmed that 'Uncharted 2' is in the works during the ongoing CineEurope event, as reported by Variety.

Script Written For Uncharted 2

Mark Wahlberg, who starred as Victor "Sully" Sullivan, revealed that a script for Uncharted 2 has already been written, hinting that plans for the sequel are moving forward. The first film's post-credits scene and other hints suggest potential plot directions for the sequel. It could involve the introduction of new characters from the games, like Sam Drake, and more adventures with Nathan and Sully. There’s also the buzz about Tom Holland returning to reprise his role as Nathan Drake, with Wahlberg obviously back as Sully.

Despite the first film’s lukewarm critical reception, its financial success and fan interest set the stage for a sequel. With a new script and potential new story arcs that delve deeper into the Uncharted universe, Sony seems to be betting that the second outing could capture and expand on what fans enjoyed about the franchise's debut on the big screen.

So, if you’re a fan of the games or the characters, Uncharted 2 might just be the treasure hunt worth waiting for!
