Games get announced all the time, but never in such a bizarre way. While not every game out there, especially live service games, can go on forever, having someone announce a new game, and then also reveal the shut-down date in the same tweet is wild.

Well, it's been done and most players and fans are confused, because... why even ship the game at all at this point, right?

The Love Live! series is huge, with multiple games, characters and even anime series. There have been multiple blunders along the way, though, with some games doing better than others.

In 2023 Love Live! School Idol Festival was shut down after a 10-year run, while the sequel Love Live! School Idol Festival All Stars was also shut down in 2023 to make room for a new version, Love Live! School Idol Festival All Stars 2.

Well, for any rhythm game lovers, it's time you just play Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage! at this point, because in a tweet by the Love Live! devs it's revealed when the global version of the second All Star game will be released. In the second paragraph of the tweet, they also reveal the shut-down date of the game, though.

The Japanese version of Love Live! School Idol Festival ALL STARS 2 was released in 2023, while the global versions took about a year to make, with the release set for February 2024. The shut-down date for global servers has also been revealed to be in May 2024... so yeah, you can play the game for three months, and then it's getting shut down.

This doesn't come as a surprise to long-time fans of rhythm games and the SIF series though, with fans on Reddit stating that a lack of QoL updates and changes to the game means that there are much better rhythm games to play these days. So, will this mean the end for School Idol Festival games?
