Genshin Impact has broken another record, becoming the fastest mobile game to reach the $5-billion mark in revenue.
Genshin Impact released at the perfect time, right as the COVID-19 pandemic was at its height and players were unable to go outside to meet with friends. Since it blew up upon release, the game has only garnered more and more players, as well as more revenue.
While the game itself is free to play, there are options to spend money on better characters and weapons and that strategy seems to have paid off for HoYoverse, who have managed to reach the $5-billion revenue mark in record time.
Genshin Impact Might Be Free To Play... But Paying Is Better
Genshin Impact is a free to play game, with microtransaction options. The game is available on both PC, PlayStation and mobile, making it accessible on multiple platforms for players. A recent report from data.ai has shown that the game has become one of the highest grossing games of recent time, even breaking records three years after release.
Genshin released in late 2020 and in its first year of release managed to reach almost $1.8-billion in revenue. This number has only increased and according to data.ai, they estimate that Genshin is the fastest mobile title to make it to $5-billion in just over three years of live service.
The kicker? These are all just numbers from their mobile revenues, with numbers coming from Apple's App Store and Google Play. According to data.ai data from the iOS version shows that almost $1.5-billion was spent in China alone.
Japan comes in second when it comes to consumer spend with nearly $1.06-billion in spending, while America is the third largest with $903-million in spending by players.
Genshin managed to reach the $5-billion mark in just 40 months, which is 11 faster than the second-place Clash of Clans, who managed this feat in 51 months. With this much money in HoYoverse's pockets you'd think that the devs care that some players are unfollowing them on social media right now? Hardly.
