The Resident Evil 2 Remake was incredibly well-received in 2019 and helped introduce new players to the original survival horror series. This was followed by remakes of RE3 and most recently RE4, which recently got a tasty price cut. It seems that more projects will soon follow. An attentive fan has even found evidence of a potential new mobile game.

Concept Art From Resident Evil 2 Mobile Game Has Surfaced

On Reddit, a user reported findings on the LinkedIn profile of a concept artist from the gaming company NetEase. This artist showcases several images related to a Resident Evil 2 Mobile Game in their portfolio and mentions the project as "still under development".

The images mainly showcase the design of the main hall of the Raccoon City Police Department. In addition to concepts for the 3D models, we see several doors, decorative elements, and textures for floors and walls.

In the comments of the Reddit post, there is speculation that the project has already been canceled. That wouldn't be a huge surprise, as (free) mobile ports often struggle to find a functional monetization strategy. This was already evident in the cancelled mobile adaptation of Nier, and a potential Elden Ring port also hinges on the execution.

One user also has another guess as to why the RE2 mobile version could have been cancelled:

Indeed a mobile version of the Resident Evil 4 remake was released for Apple devices in December 2023. However, the game does not run on every device but requires the flagship A17 processor and a device from the M-class, such as an iPhone Pro or Max, or an iPad Pro or Air. So, if games can be ported as quickly in the future as it happened here, there may no longer be a need for extensive rebuilds.

Other comments speculate that the RE2 Remake Mobile project could potentially be used for the Switch or its successor.

However, none of this, neither the existence of RE2 Mobile nor its cancellation, has been officially announced, so take this leak, as always, with a grain of salt.
