The Blair Witch Projects, one of the most famous horror films of all time, is getting a reboot thanks to Blumhouse.
The Blair Witch Project is getting a reboot. At CinemaCon, it was revealed that Blumhouse and Lions Gate are going to be tackling this iconic franchise. Blumhouse is known for their low budget approach to movies, as well as their catalog of horror classics like Paranormal Activity and The Purge.
So, in theory this sounds like a match made in heaven, but do we truly need a revival of one of the best horror movies ever made?
Blumhouse And Lionsgate To Revive Blair Witch Project
At this year's CinemaCon, some amazing new projects were revealed, like the upcoming Lord of the Rings anime. Jason Blum, known for his take on modern horror, also revealed that he, alongside Lionsgate would revive the Blair With Project.
According to Variety, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair, Adam Fogelson, revealed that their new take on the horror classic would be a "new vision for Blair Witch that will reintroduce this horror classic for a new generation".
It'll be interesting to see how they bring the Blair Witch Project into the 2020s. The marketing of the original persuaded many viewers that this was real found footage, which was what made the film so iconic. No movie in this day and age will ever be able to recreate that experience for the audience, simply because no one will believe it.
Blum is hopeful and positive about the project, believing that they'll be able to do the 1999 original justice.
I’m very grateful to Adam and the team at Lionsgate for letting us play in their sandbox. I’m a huge admirer of ‘The Blair Witch Project,’ which brought the idea of found footage horror to mainstream audiences and became a true cultural phenomenon.
He goes on to state that without the original film, movies like Paranormal Activity would have never been made. It'll be interesting to see how Lionsgate and Blumhouse approach this storied horror franchise, but for now we're keeping our excitement in check.
