Netflix really seems to have taken a liking to video game adaptations – Castlevania, Tomb Raider, The Witcher, to name just a few. Next on the list is Horizon Zero Dawn, as was revealed in the PlayStation Podcast.

In Horizon Zero Dawn, players get to explore the post-apocalyptic world as Aloy to uncover the mysteries of the past and how the gigantic robotic creatures known as "machines" came to roam the lands. It's basically robot dinosaurs, and Aloy right in the middle of it.

With the announcement that the Horizon Zero Dawn adaptation is in early development, here's everything you need to know about the upcoming Netflix show to get yourself hyped up to binge-watch Aloy's first adventure!

Good news for fans of staying faithful to the source material: reportedly, Netflix will rather go the route that HBO's The Last of Us went: "We're gonna tell the story of the game because we can. Because it's a show, we have the time to do it, we've got the episodes to be able to do it."

Considering how Netflix kind of went off the rails with The Witcher's source material, this is rather comforting news, as the game's storytelling is one of its biggest selling points (apart from the absolutely stunning visuals and the amazingly crafted world, of course).

While the excitement of exploring the world yourself as a player gets lost in a show, The Last of Us showed that it's still possible to get audiences invested, even without a controller in hand. Taking a page out of that book seems like the perfect way to handle Horizon Zero Dawn as well, as the story and all of its mysteries have all the components for a gripping show, too.

The show is going to be developed by Steve Blackman, best known for his other successful Netflix show, The Umbrella Academy. He's joined by Michelle Lovretta and Abbey Morris, as well as Jan-Bart van Beek and Ben McCaw from Guerrilla.

Horizon Zero Dawn: A Quick Overview

If it's been a while since you played the game, don't worry: I'm here to catch you up to speed again. I'm gonna keep it spoiler-free as well for those who didn't even play the game and just want to know what they'll be in for.

It's the post-apocalypse: humanity has reverted to tribal societies while gigantic robotic creatures roam the lands of Nora Valley. Aloy, a skilled young hunter and outcast from her tribe, embarks on an adventure to uncover not only her own past, but also that of the world.

With a mysterious device known as Focus, she can use the technology from the past to unravel those mysteries – all while having to deal not only with dangerous robot dinosaurs, but also other tribes, corrupt organizations and the mystery of her own past.

Thankfully, Aloy doesn't have to face it all on her own. She meets a variety of friends and fiends, but as the show is still in early development, none of the characters have been cast yet. (Maybe Sean Bean as Rost? If you know, you know.) But, the podcast also revealed that they are "going to also find opportunities to go wider and explore other characters and do more worldbuilding that you can’t do in the game because of the agency." Sounds promising!

When Is The Horizon Zero Dawn Show Coming To Netflix?

As the show is still in development, there has been no official release date revealed yet. In general, Netflix has remained pretty tight-lipped about any details.
