Godzilla x Kong: Release Date & Trailer
The originally planned March release had to be pushed a bit, but there's finally news!
Warner Bros. revealed a first look at the two giants in early December, sparking not only a debate about whether Godzilla should run or not (let me answer that: he should. And he should also move his monster arms doing so. Well done, Warner!), but also getting fans hyped up for the spectacle again.
And fans won't have to wait that much longer: Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire releases on March 29, 2024 instead of April 12 like originally planned. Check out the trailer right here:
Godzilla x Kong: The New Cast & Team
Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire will be directed by Adam Wingard again, and he seems to make good on his own words about what he'd like to see further explored in the Monsterverse: the Hollow Earth. But, we'll get to that further below.
He's joined by writer Terry Rossio again, who has also worked on Godzilla vs. Kong. Simon Barret (Blair Witch) and Jeremy Slater (The Umbrella Academy) are also on the writers team – seems like a solid combo!
Filming took place in Australia. And to be honest, if there's one place where monsters like King Kong or Godzilla would walk around, it would be Down Under. Bet the aussies wouldn't even bat an eye, they are used to terrifying wildlife. Cheers, mates!
Godzilla x Kong has its titular figures in the spotlight, so humanity – and going hand in hand with that, also human actors – won't take central stage. Still, there are going to be some old and new faces in the new Monsterverse.
Rebecca Hall returns as Dr. Ilene Andrews, accompanied by fellow co-stars Brian Tyree Henry as Bernie Hayes and Kaylee Hottle as Jia. The new cast includes Dan Stevens as the new protagonist as well as Alex Ferns, Fala Chen and Rachel House.
What Will Godzilla x Kong Be About?
According to director Adam Wingard, he'll make good on his promise of further exploring Hollow Earth. It seems the new villain, another gargantuan ape with powers that could mirror Godzilla's. Has he found a way into the Hollow Earth temple to obtain those powers? Whatever the case may be – there's only one duo that can stop him. Here's the official synopsis:
This latest entry follows up the explosive showdown of Godzilla vs. Kong with an all-new cinematic adventure, pitting the almighty Kong and the fearsome Godzilla against a colossal undiscovered threat hidden within our world, challenging their very existence – and our own. The epic new film will delve further into the histories of these Titans, their origins and the mysteries of Skull Island and beyond, while uncovering the mythic battle that helped forge these extraordinary beings and tied them to humankind forever.
So, mark your calendars for March 29, 2024! We'll make sure to keep you updated on any other news until then.
