Great news for DC fans: Aquaman is back and he's got to deal with the lost kingdom – let's go! Here's everything you need to know about Aquaman 2, including the release date, cast, trailer and even more.
Arthur aka Aquaman is back at it again: after the smash hit that was the first movie in 2018, fans will finally get to see their favorite Justice League member in action again: get ready for Aquaman 2!
It's a great choice from James Gunn to have Aquaman be spared from the Armageddon of countless DC projects. I wouldn't want to face Aquaman and tell him he's out, either. Anyway, we're glad we'll get to see Arthur again in his own movie. Let's dive into the upcoming DC spectacle!
Aquaman 2 | Release Date & Teaser
It could've been so good: the first movie was released back on December 21, 2018 and they nearly made it the exact same date, just six years apart. However, some things are just not meant to be. Either way: Aquaman 2 is going to hit cinemas on December 20, 2023.
The release has been postponed a couple of times for various reasons, but it seems like December 20 is set. Whether the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strikes are going to be a problem remains to be seen – wouldn't be the first anticipated release that has to be rescheduled.
And what can I say? I sure hope it won't be delayed again after watching the trailer:
Aquaman 2 | Plot
As is the nature of a teaser trailer, we didn't actually get that many plot details (except for Jason Momoa riding a seahorse, which is enough for me to go see the movie). Luckily, we have also been given an official synopsis:
Having failed to defeat Aquaman the first time, Black Manta, still driven by the need to avenge his father’s death, will stop at nothing to take Aquaman down once and for all. This time Black Manta is more formidable than ever before, wielding the power of the mythic Black Trident, which unleashes an ancient and malevolent force. To defeat him, Aquaman will turn to his imprisoned brother Orm, the former King of Atlantis, to forge an unlikely alliance. Together, they must set aside their differences in order to protect their kingdom and save Aquaman’s family, and the world, from irreversible destruction.
Sound good?
Aquaman 2 | Returning Cast
In Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, fans are going to see lots of familiar faces. Most importantly Jason Momoa will reprise his role as Arthur Curry aka Aquaman and pick up the trident again.
Amber Heard also returns as Mera, Nicole Kidman comes back as Atlanna as well as Patrick Wilson and Willem Dafoe as Orm and Nuidis respectively. King Nereus will be once again portrayed by Dolph Lundgren and, of course, Yahja Abdul-Mateen II is Black Manta, vengeful as ever.
Ben Affleck was supposed to star in Aquaman 2 as well, but reportedly his scenes have been cut. It's unsure if Batman will have a cameo in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. There's nothing left to do than patiently wait for December 20, 2023, to find out, so mark your calendars!
