Relic Entertainment Inc. hasn't given up on the Company of Heroes franchise. Instead, they've double-downed on this franchise by developing a third installment, and this version promises to be different than anything we've seen from the franchise. Aren't you excited? We are, as Relic Entertainment has created some incredible RTS games. We don't expect Company of Heroes 3 to be any different.
RTS Games have an unwavering group of players that dedicate themselves to winning strategic battles in Total War, Warcraft, and StarCraft. It’s a unique subgenre of gaming that has continued to grow with next-generation consoles and PCs. Therefore, we’re happy to present you a debriefing on Relic’s Company of Heroes 3.
Company of Heroes has allowed games to feel like they’re in control of the battlefield since 2006. However, numerous upgrades are needed to ensure that Company of Heroes 3 appeals to younger audiences. Therefore, we are moving from the Eastern & Western Fronts of WWII to the Mediterranean. But those aren’t the exclusive updates being provided to Company of Heroes 3. We’ll also be getting additional upgrades in terms of gameplay and graphics.
With that said, let’s delve into EarlyGame’s debriefing for Company of Heroes 3.
Company of Heroes 3: Release Date
Relic Entertainment Inc. originally planned to release Company of Heroes 3 in 2022. Unfortunately, we'll need to wait a bit longer before the game hits stores. The good news is that the game has an official release date by now and will be available on February 23, 2023.
Game Setting, Story, And Everything We Know About Company of Heroes 3
Company of Heroes 3 is set within the Mediterranean campaign of World War II, meaning we’ll wage war on battlefields in North Africa and Italy. However, Relic Entertainment hasn’t shown any footage of the North African Campaign. They’ve limited the gameplay footage to Italy, and that makes us wonder about the possibility of a DLC.
Detailed mission objectives are available in Company of Heroes 3, with beta testers mentioning that four hour campaigns could be extended to accumulate a gameplay time of eleven hours. This is because Relic Entertainment has included additional objectives within every faction. Moreover, they've made improvements in the combat mechanics, as Company of Heroes 3 offers multiplayer modes that are dynamic & chaotic. You notice paratroopers drop down from military craft, as buildings collapse and environments are bombarded.
We recommended you get prepared for the multiplayer mode in Company of Heroes 3. Beta testers have stated that assisting the infantry during bombing raids, dueling with tanks, and avoiding artillery strikes can feel overwhelming at first. But once you’ve gotten used to the gameplay mechanics, you won’t have any challenges in combating your opponents.
Relic Entertainment Inc. has confirmed that Company of Heroes 3 will maintain three military classes for multiplayer. Those include:
- The United States Army
- The British Armed Forces
- The Wehrmacht (German Army)
It’s noted that the cooperation & unison of these armies is significant towards the outcome of your campaigns. As such, commanders and special factions within these armies must cooperate to guarantee a positive outcome. For instance, you’ll need to work with the Italian Partisan Liaison at some point throughout the campaign. But we aren’t spoiling anything for you!
Relic Entertainment has expanded on the RTS Battles we’re known to experience in Company of Heroes, as everything is based in real-time combat as you interact with a turn-based map. It doesn’t matter which faction is being used, as combat feels innovative and reminiscent of iconic RTS Games like StarCraft.
Company of Heroes 3 will differ itself from older RTS games by requiring players to gain more resources and territory, which will lead towards the acquisition of more troops. But we’ve wondered if this will lead towards a slippery slope where players losing multiple battles won’t be capable of moving forward. This would be unfortunate for the long-term lifespan of COH3.
You’ll hold command over the Navy, Air Force, and Infantry Divisions in each army we’ve mentioned. This means you will be capable of controlling the following military vehicles:
- Planes: Scouting Missions, Troop Drops, and Bombing Runs
- Ships: Transport Troops, and Coastline Bombardments
- Tanks: Long-Range Attacks, and Defensive Armor
Depending on how you utilize these military vehicles and soldiers, special units will be unlocked. But remember that the most important point of this RTS Game is the acquisition of land.
If you don’t use these military vehicles & soldiers properly, you’ll find yourself struggling throughout the campaign.
Is COH3 Coming To Xbox Series X/S And PC?
Relic Entertainment is publishing Company of Heroes 3 with SEGA America, and they’ve confirmed that COH3 is launching exclusively for Microsoft Windows in 2022. Therefore, this RTS game is exclusive to the PC.
That exclusivity shouldn’t be permanent, as Company of Heroes has previously released onto the Xbox. We’re confident Relic Entertainment and SEGA America will launch COH3 onto the Xbox Series X/S at some point. It’s just a matter of time.
Is Company of Heroes 3 Part of The Game Pass On Xbox?
There aren’t any guarantees that Company of Heroes 3 will be launched onto the Xbox Game Pass. Relic Entertainment and Microsoft haven’t worked together in terms of the Xbox Game Pass. As such, the chances seem low for now.
You never know what could happen, and Microsoft could manage to acquire Company of Heroes 3 for the Xbox Game Pass. It would depend entirely on the offer made to Relic Entertainment Inc.
