Sorry Cyberpunk 2077 Fans: Mulitplayer Spin-Off Has Been Axed

Cyberpunk 2077 was supposed to have a multiplayer mode as well, but due to the awful release the developers had to focus their time and energy on creating a working game... now it seems all hope for a multiplayer mode have died.

Cyberpunk 2077 might have had an awful reputation upon release, but it has since become a very good RPG and has even had a succesful annime adaptation which aired on Netflix earlier this year. You could say Cyberpunk 2077 has redeemed itself.

Fans had also been hoping for a multiplayer spin-off, but it seems that they will be disappointed to find out that CD Projekt Red have decided to go another route for their multiplayer fans.

Cyberpunk 2077 Online Spin-Off Had Been Planned

Originally, Cyberpunk 2077 was supposed to include an online game mode. The plans for it were there even before the game was released, but after the rocky start the multiplayer game mode was put by the wayside for the developers to focus their energy on fixing the game.

Senior quest designer and coordinator Philipp Weber explained this in an interview with Eurogamer.

The priority was that the main experience will run for the people in a really good state. And essentially, the switch of priorities meant that other R&D projects had to go away.

Curious about the upcoming games this December? Well here they are:

The team decided to focus on improving the single player campaign and game – something which the Pokémon Company and Gamefreak should also be doing if we're honest but we haven't seen them take any responsibility... but I digress.

The multiplayer game was never revealed, there were just rumours floating around about it getting fans hyped. But it seems we aren't all out of multiplayer content just yet... just a different kind.

CEO Adam Kicinski has explained that plans for a standalone multiplayer Cyberpunk game won't happen, instead CDPR is focusing on a different tacting. According to Kicinski the team is focusing on a big online experience or game wherein they'll bring together all the CDPR franchieses in one.

Sounds pretty interesting, especially with how different Cyberpunk 2077 is from the Wichter for example. But worry not, CDPR has a lot more in stroe for Cyberpunk fans with the upcoming Phantom Liberty DLC and much more content in the coming years. So even if the multiplayer game might not be happening, we know we will be well fed.
