Hackers have started using an exploit in the PC version of Elden Ring that can make the game unplayable.

Elden Ring is amazing, and we love the multiplayer part of it, but at least on PC, it still has a lot of problems. It doesn't work a lot of the time, people are warping all over the place and yes, there are plenty of hackers around. Those have been causing a big stir recently, as a new method used by hackers can permanently ruin your Elden Ring save file! So watch out, folks.

Hackers Can Corrupt Your Elden Ring PC Save File

This new exploit has been found and detailed on Reddit by user u/Draiganedig. According to the post, hackers can invade your game when you're playing multiplayer on PC and cause your game to crash in a way that makes it unplayable. Once you load it up again, you will keep falling to your death infinitely. We attached an example from Twitter, so you can check out how this looks:

Some people reported that if you're quick enough and get lucky, you can potentially open the map and teleport somewhere else, fixing this glitch. But that's not consistent and there is no other fix for this exploit yet. So if that happens to you, you will most likely have to start from scratch again... ouch. That's such a pain, especially considering how huge Elden Ring is. Developer From Software hasn't commented on this problem yet, so there is no official solution or guidance yet.

This is super frustrating, I can't even imagine spending hours upon hours farming runes and leveling up, making it through some of the toughest bosses in the game just for my save file to be corrupted. If you're playing on console, though, you don't have to worry: This exploit seems to only be happening on the PC version of Elden Ring, and since the game doesn't (really) have crossplay you guys are safe for now. For my fellow PC gamers out there, there is only one solution to be 100% safe right now, and that's to play offline until there is a permanent fix.
