Since 2019, I’ve supported Codemasters and their motorsport franchises. It began with Formula One & continued with the Project Cars and Grid franchises. Every game felt different and provided me with an updated racing experience. For me, there isn’t anything more thrilling than overtaking my opponents. Now, I know that isn’t the case for most of you. However, I’d like to introduce you to Grid Legends & explain how this game could revolutionize your understanding of motorsport games. You’ll be surprised with what Grid Legends has to offer in terms of gameplay, features, vehicles, and tracks.

When Is Grid Legends Coming Out?

Codemasters is releasing Grid Legends on February 25th, 2022. It will launch with unexpected features like a race creator system. What does that mean, though? That different generations of motorsport vehicles can be pitted against each other. But there’ll be numerous features that launch on February 25th for international audiences.

Which Tracks & Cars Are In Grid Legends?

Here’s where things start getting interesting. Grid Legends is launching with 130 tracks, with famous locations like Silverstone and Shanghai making their return. But we’ll also explore new environments like Moscow & London in this franchise's fifth installment.

I didn’t anticipate Codemasters would develop a ramp-based track for France and Chicago, but those expectations were wrong. It seems this time around, we’ll be gliding past the Eiffel Tower in France’s capital. Now, how doesn’t that seem fun?

Codemasters hasn’t focused solely on developing circuits. They’ve also included 100 vehicles from Volkswagen, Porsche, Lotus, BMW, Aston Martin, and Audi. Our favorite choices include the following:

  • Audi R8
  • BMW M3 Touring Car
  • Porsche 911 GT-1
  • Volkswagen Golf GTI

These vehicles are separated into nine different classes. We’ll need to learn the differences in how each class performs on the track. That means there could be a minor learning curve to Grid Legends. Even I’ll struggle to understand these vehicle classes at first. But there’s hope because Codemasters has provided us with some information on these classes.

  • Open Wheel: Maximize your speed with increased grip and control by exploiting lightweight vehicles across international circuits.
  • Track Day: Road-legal vehicles pushing the boundaries of speed and aerodynamics are provided in the Track Day category.
  • Specials: Participate in motorsport events with vintage roadsters and ground-breaking vehicles like the Renault R26.
  • Touring: Hatchbacks, Sedans, SUVs, and Crossovers are combined into this category. You can drive everyday vehicles in motorsport races.
  • Electric: The automotive world changed when electric vehicles were introduced. For years, the development of electric-based racing cars has increased tenfold. We’ll get to experience these vehicles for the first time in Codemasters history. I’m intrigued to see how these vehicles will perform.
  • Tuner: American muscle & Japanese craftmanship are combined in the Tuner category. We’ll have access to famous sedans like the Audi R8 and Pontiac Firebird.
  • Truck: Take the Dumont Colossus or T36 Brawler into the Trucks category, where we’ll compete against other racers with oversized vehicles on ramp-based tracks.
  • Drift: Unlock Mitsubishi’s cars and participate in the Drift category, where you’ll make unbelievable corners on famous street circuits like Indianapolis.
  • GT: The Porsche 926C and Ginetta G40 can be unlocked by competing in events within the GT category. We’ll progress throughout this series by acquiring new vehicles that outperform the competition. By the end, our cars should be incredibly fast.

Codemasters is releasing four post-launch expansions into Grid Legends. Unfortunately, details regarding those expansions haven’t been identified yet. We’ll keep you updated when Codemasters make an official announcement regarding their post-launch content.

Is Grid Legends Getting Released Onto Xbox and PC?

I’m happy to report that Codemasters is launching Grid Legends across Xbox One and XSX, with additional support being provided for the PC and PlayStation. There will be two versions of this game, including the standard and deluxe editions. But which one is better? I’d argue the deluxe option. Why, might you ask? Because several post-launch content packages are awarded to players.

  • Ravenwest & Seneca Legends Pack
  • Voltz Legend Pack
  • Mechanic Pass
  • Post-Launch Content

Gamers that purchase the Xbox One or PS4 versions of Grid Legends will receive an immediate upgrade to download this game onto their PS5 and Xbox Series X. This means I’ll have access to Grid Legends long after upgrading to the next-generation consoles.

Is Grid Legends Part Of The Game Pass On Xbox?

Haven’t you heard? Electronic Arts acquired Codemasters for $1.2 billion. That means there’s almost a 100% guarantee that Grid Legends will launch onto the Game Pass. It wouldn’t be surprising considering that EA and Microsoft have worked together for years with the Game Pass. Readers, however, shouldn’t expect this game to launch onto the Game Pass on January 25th, as preorders must be honored.

Everything We Know About Grid Legends So Far: Features & Story Mode

Electronic Arts and Codemasters haven’t stopped themselves from developing multiple features into Grid Legends, allowing gamers to maintain countless hours of entertainment. I’ve noticed several features that should excite racers everywhere, including the confirmation that Codemasters hasn’t introduced any microtransactions into this game. Everything is unlocked in-game by levelling up your character in different events. These features should be enough to interest everyone. But there’s still more I’ve got to tell you!

  • Nemesis System: Codemasters introduced the Nemesis System into Grid 2019. It maintained similar mechanics to Middle Earth: Shadow at War, in that enemies were created based on your behavior. This time an enemy becomes your rival & on-track behavior can dictate how races unfold, as adversaries will attack you. But Codemasters has improved the Nemesis System to stand stronger and more resistant to drivers. So, prepare for a challenge.
  • Driven to Glory: Following the trends of F1 2021, Grid Legends will introduce their version of this story-mode feature. You’ll participate in various events that are designed similarly to documentaries. As such, we can expect the live cast members to create an exciting storyline.
  • Race Creator: Want to develop your own events? Have touring cars race against tuners? That’s possible inside the Race Creator mode, which is new to the Grid franchise. You’ll be capable of changing the vehicle classes, weather conditions, game modes, and track routes.
  • Career Mode: Hundreds of different events & game modes are comprised into one series within the career mode. We’ll advance onwards to become the best driver around before experiencing multiplayer, where things should become much more difficult.
  • AI Drivers: Unpredictability best describes AI drivers in Grid Legends. These vehicles will perform maneuvers you wouldn’t expect. So everyone, including myself, must be competing at their highest capabilities to win. This means some real challenges are coming.
  • Upgrades: Grid Legends is allowing gamers to upgrade & customize their vehicles like never before. We’ll improve our performance as more events and races are won. But there isn’t any confirmation if these upgrades will transfer over into the multiplayer. I’m hoping they will.

Is Grid Legends Getting An Online Mode?

Ready for this? Codemasters has developed cross-platform multiplayer for Grid Legends, as similarly seen with Warzone. This marks the first introduction of cross-platform multiplayer into a Codemasters game, suggesting that F1 2022 could maintain an identical feature. We’ll have access to twenty-one player lobbies that work in correlation with the Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, PS4, and PS5.

Game Trailer and Demo

Unfortunately, I’m assuming that Codemasters won’t launch a demo for Grid Legends. Most of their games haven’t provided a demo because the storylines are told over numerous hours. However, gameplay footage & trailers provide players insight into what is coming. I’d noticed that Grid Legends has received a graphics upgrade compared to Grid 2019. That could mean these events will feel more realistic for you & me.

Game System Requirements

You won’t need the latest & greatest components to operate Grid Legends on your PC. However, you’ll acquire a superior experience by exploiting graphic cards like the Nvidia GeForce GTX 3060 or AMD RX 6700. Why might you ask? Because you’ll be capable of reaching 120FPS with ray-tracing graphics. In turn, racing experiences would feel more authentic. Luckily, I’ve already begun upgrading my PC.
