New Smash Bros Competition: LEGO Brawls

Apple Arcade is joining the platform fighter frenzy with LEGO Brawls, which is... Smash with LEGOs.

So everybody is jumping on the platform-fighter train now: Warner Bros is doing it with their upcoming Multiversus, Nickelodeon did it, and now Apple Arcade is releasing their entry into the new hype: LEGO Brawls, which is, very literally, Smash Bros with LEGO characters.

LEGO Brawls Announced: Trailer & Release Date

The game actually doesn't look that bad, and has a very specific feature that other platform fighters definitely don't have: You can build your own LEGO figure. Outside of that, it's a lot of what we're used to from the genre, but that's not a bad thing: No need to necessarily reinvent the wheel.

The release date for LEGO Brawls is set for June 2022. The game will be released on the Nintendo Switch, as well as the PC, PlayStation and Xbox.

Will LEGO Brawls be able to compete? Well... it's tough to say, since LEGO has a lot of franchises in principle, but I don't know what they actually own. For example, we can see Jurassic World in the trailer, but in reality, Jurassic World is owned by Universal. While LEGO has made use of a lot of franchises in their toy-output, it's hard to imagine Nickelodeon or Warner Bros allowing LEGO to use their IP for a platform-fighter that's in direct competition with them. The same goes for Nintendo, or any future DC or Marvel platform-fighter that might be coming down the pipeline.
