The Resident Evil 4 Remake Demo is live and the full release is just around the corner. After the fantastic remakes of Resident Evil 2 and 3, the RE4 Remake will release on March 24. To check if RE4 is for you, Capcom released a demo of the game that contains a little secret. The Resident Evil 4 Demo actually has a secret hard mode... but you can't just select it from the menu screen, it's a bit more complicated.

Resident Evil 4 Demo: How To Unlock Mad Chainsaw Mode

Capcom came up with a weird way to unlock their secret hard mode in the Resident Evil 4 Demo. As mentioned before, you can't just select a difficulty from the main menu, instead you'll actually need a bit of luck or patience. If you select "New Game", there is a random chance you are brought to a screen that offers you to choose Mad Chainsaw Mode for one playthrough.

This means you either need to be very lucky or you need to restart the game and select "New Game" until you see the special Mad Chainsaw Mode screen. Right now, we don't know how high exactly the chances are to get offered the secret hard mode, but some sources claim the chances are higher if you already finished the demo once.

The Mad Chainsaw Mode will make the game significantly harder and is exclusive for the demo. The prompt in game clearly states: "This mode is specific to the demo and is not included in the final game". So if you want to have a real challenge and see if you can beat the secret hard mode of Resident Evil 4, you have to do it before the full release.

Will you try the Mad Chainsaw Mode or maybe finished it already? We are hyped for the full release and will keep you up to date with everything you need to know about the RE4 Remake.
