If you wanted to modify Starfield, you could only do this on PC. Now, game developer Bethesda has made an announcement that most of the console players will love to hear.
Starfield is one of the biggest games of 2023. Since its release in early September, the game has accumulated millions of players on PC and Xbox. And like most other games, Starfield players were fast in creating mods for their game. Whether it is new content, little cheats, visual improvements or other quality of life changes, the community made it.
The downside? Currently, these Mods are only available for PC players, but this might change soon.
Bethesda Makes Exciting Announcements For Starfield Mods
Bethesda, the company behind Starfield, has some exciting news for players. They're planning on an official mod integration tool in the game, which can make it even more awesome. Installing mods would then be really simple AND Xbox players could finally mod their game as well.
Todd Howard, the CEO of Bethesda, had this to say in an interview with Famitsu, a Japanese magazine:
When the mods are ready, you will be able to do almost anything as we have done in the past, and the mods will be supported next year, but we will do it in a big way because we love it too [...]
Starfield has been in the making since 2015, and Howard thinks that mods will take it to the next level. Although official mod support isn't here yet, some players are already creating huge mods for the game. Bethesda is known for supporting community-made mods in their games like Fallout 4 and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, so it's no surprise they're doing it for Starfield too.
Even though Starfield already has a bunch of mods, including things like stormtroopers and support for Nvidia's fancy tech, DLSS upscaling, there's more to come. Bethesda loves mods, and the feeling is mutual. A lot of the most popular games on Nexus Mods (a site for mods) are made by Bethesda. The reason behind this is Bethesda's great support for modders with their Creation Kit toolkits. They make it easier to create and use mods, even on consoles.
Starfield fans on Xbox who love mods will have something to look forward to. While there are already thousands of fan-made mods available for PC, the console players can only play the standard version of the game right now. But this will change in 2024.
So, if you're excited about modding Starfield, you'll have to wait a bit, but it sounds like it'll be worth it!
