The Wolf Among Us 2 was set for release in 2023, but the much-anticipated Adventure game has now been delayed by quite a while.
The Wolf Among Us 2 was set to finally come out this year. The much-anticipated sequel to the amazing Adventure had a release window for 2023, after originally being announced in 2017. But now, the game has been pushed out this year and is planned to be released in 2024.
The Wolf Among Us 2 Delayed To 2024
The delay has been announced by Jamie Ottilie, CEO of developer Telltale, in an interview with IGN. He explained the many reasons for the delay, which really sounds like a good decision to be honest.
According to Ottilie, the decision has been made to avoid crunch and to make sure that the game will be in a good state when it comes out, which you have to be all for.
"I've done crunch, and I don't want to do it again, and it's not fair to ask it. You can't plan a business around it. We don't want to burn out our good people. Burning people out or grinding them down is the wrong thing to do long-term. It's not how you build a business. And as an industry, we're terrible about it. We burn our people out. We burn our best people out faster. And as an industry, if we're going to continue to grow, we have to stop it. We just have to stop doing it and make better choices."
Things like a change to Unreal Engine 5 and the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic have strongly influenced the development of the game, which had a very troubled history so far. That's why they want to take more time to get it right.
"If we put this game out and it's not ready, we're going to get torn to shreds. The expectations are pretty high, and we want time to meet those and we want to be proud of it."
The fantastic first game came out in 2013, with the sequel being announced five years later in 2017. Shortly afterward, we saw Telltale's tumultuous implosion and subsequent resurrection, including the announcement that The Wolf Among Us 2 will be finished after all.
So, it's fair to say that the game had a pretty rough ride so far! Let's hope the team at Telltale can now finally get it over the line, as I can't wait for Bigby's latest adventure.
