A new Sony ad promoting the PS5 seems to include a teaser for Uncharted 5.
Sony is being a massive tease here with their new live-action promo called "Live from PS5". The ad (which you can watch below) features a bunch of live-action segments representing recent games like Returnal, Ghost of Tsushima and God of War Ragnarök, as well as upcoming titles like Final Fantasy 16 and Spider-Man 2.
However, there is one mysterious clip, which just flashes up very briefly. It shows a young woman exploring a cave with a torch. Our alarm bells immediately went off: Is Sony teasing Uncharted 5 here?
Uncharted 5 Potentially Teased By Sony
This imagery immediately screams Uncharted to us. Or rather Indiana Jones, but obviously that series took a lot from the classic franchise. The young woman could be a nod towards Cassie, the daughter of Elena Fisher and Nathan Drake, who you briefly control at the end of Uncharted 4.
Since the release of "A Thief's End" in 2016, players have speculated that a new Uncharted would let you play as Cassie, with her taking over her father's legacy as an explorer.
Definitely a cheeky move by Sony here, whatever this ends up being about. This clip is the only bit of the trailer, that isn't recognizably from an existing game. And it's used much more sparingly than the other clips in the ad. So it feels like a deliberate tease for an unannounced project, which is also hinted at by Sony via a blog post:
“This new spot hints at the breadth of extraordinary experiences taking place in the PS5 universe through the style of a live news channel. See if you can spot all the game references.”
They're literally asking us to read too much into it! We believe this is Sony deliberately teasing us with a potential new Uncharted game. It would probably not be made by Naughty Dog, as they recently revealed that they're done with the series. But we actually wouldn't mind seeing another studio take a crack at this franchise.
