The Opening Night Live 2022 kicks off the Gamescom this year with a big showcase full of games and announcements. See here all the highlights from the show.
With the Opening Night Live, the Gamescom 2022 officially kicks off. The live showcase hosted by industry evergreen Geoff Keighley is slated to be two hours long and will feature dozens of games, including announced titles as well as brand-new ones. You can watch the Opening Night Live on YouTube and Twitch. In this article we will put together all of our highlights from the show.
The Opening Night Live starts on Tuesday, August 23 at 8 pm CET / 2 pm EDT / 11 am PDT and will be broadcast on YouTube and Twitch. Check out the livestream here:
Before the show, a slew of titles were already confirmed to make an appearance, next to dozens of unknown games that will be shown as well. Here is a selection of games that we will definitely see:

Gamescom Opening Night Live: All Games & Highlights
Everywhere
The big start of the show is Everywhere, the exciting new project by Rockstar co-founder Leslie Benzies. And it actually seems to try to live up to that name. The new trailer showed off tons of different kinds of gameplay, from exciting story moments to explosive action and exhilarating driving. There are different artstyles and environments and the developers promise "big surprises". I don't get what's going on! But it looks great.
Everywhere will be available in 2023, with more details coming later this year.
Dune: Awakening
Fear is the mindkiller, yo! A new Survival MMO game set in the Dune universe was leaked before and now we actually saw a fantastic trailer for it. It shows a character jumping to engage with a sandworm.
The game will come out on Xbox Series X|S, PS5 and Steam. And: you can sign up for a beta already! Excited to see how this one turns out. A release date hasn't been announced yet.
The Callisto Protocol
Another show led by Geoff Keighley, another new showing for The Callisto Protocol. The game looks great! It still looks a lot like Dead Space! Let me play it already!!

The Lords of the Fallen
"Yes, they dropped the 2". Shout out to Geoff for stealing the joke everyone already typed out. The sequel to the great Souls-like Lords of the Fallen was announced a while ago, and we finally got to see it. A cool trailer with a great needle drop, but no release date or straight up gameplay. Shame. Still, a really cool trailer!
Hogwarts Legacy
A new trailer for the highly anticipated Hogwarts Legacy was shown. Stupor! Leviosa! I don't know, sorry. It looks... alright? We've been waiting for the game for a while and on February 10, you can finally become a Hogwarts student for yourself.
New Tales From The Borderlands
Damn, son. If you don't remember Tales from the Borderlands, let me remind you that it is one of the best Telltale games, best adventures games and best Borderlands games ever made. And it's finally getting a sequel.
None other than Randy "The Wizard" Pitchford was on stage to confirm, that part of the original writers have come back for the sequel. That and the great trailer make me just so freaking excited!
Sonic Frontiers
Sorry to all my Sonic fans out there, but this game still looks like complete doodoo. This new trailer, featuring a weird doll, ugly environments and boring gameplay didn't do toooo much to convince me otherwise.
But: if you're excited for the game, you will be happy to hear that the release date of Sonic Frontiers was confirmed for November 8 and it's coming to PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam.
Goat Simulator 3
The GOAT is back, baby! Goat Simulator 3 was shown off and... it looks a lot like Goat Simulator. And that is a great thing! You can play with other goats, drive cars, play footie, do yoga. You know, the usual.The trailer was expectedly wild and definitely made us excited for the game.
Goat Simulator 3 will come out on November 18 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
Moonbreaker
Hearthstone meets XCom, made by the genius developers of Subnautica and written by Brandon Sanderson? This game already sounds like a home run, and you will be able to play it on September 29, when Moonbreaker enters early access on Steam.
Lies of P
Honestly... what the heck. This game is a Bloodborne "inspired" Souls-like based on... Pinocchio? The Bloodborne thing is obvious, just look at it. But Pinocchio? It's not just weird, I don't really see it. But whatever, the game actually looks pretty good!
Lies of P will be released in 2023, coming to Game Pass on day one.
Killer Klowns From Outer Space
Holy camoly... WHO would have expected that. If you don't know this absolute holy grail of trashy movies, go and watch it right now. And then get ready for 2023, when the asymmetrical online game will come out for Xbox X|S, PS4, PS5 and Steam. Oh, and sign up for the beta here!
Gotham Knights
It's the bat crew! Kicking it in Gotham! Listen... I'm not very optimistic for Gotham Knights. It looks... troubled. And uninspired. But hey, I'm sure it will be fun in co-op and hey, we didn't get an Arkham game in literal ages. At ONL, a new trailer was premiered which was fun and got us ready for the game.
Fortunately, we won't have to wait as long as we though: the release date of Gotham Knights was pushed forward a bit to October 21.
Warhammer 40.000: Darktide
"Rejects will rise!" Ok, easily best trailer of the show just for that quote. Darktide is the spiritual successor to the Virmintide games, but now we're in the Warhammer 40K universe. And you know what that means, right? Guns are back, baby!
Dead Island 2
It's happening, it's real: Dead Island 2 is actually coming out. For the big show closer, this game was brought back from the dead (get it?) with a snazzy, stylish, only slightly dull CG trailer, which introduces one of a handful of playable characters, as well as a gameplay demo. It's the usual affair: over-the-top zombie slaying and... that's it? I'm sure it will be a fun game to rock through with your brain turned off.
Dead Island 2 will release on February 3 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
