LoL Patch 13.22 Brings Back Mid Lane Janna Builds

Janna seems to be getting some major changes in LoL Patch 13.22 and players are hopeful that she can be played in the mid lane once more and won't just be a shield bot.

Janna is probably one of the most versatile champions in the game. Not only did she have a short stint in the top lane earlier this year, but she's also a great support and some people even like to play her in the mid lane.

Unfortunately, her kit had been changed so much that she has been forced into the support, enchanter role, which had some players frustrated, but with some major changes to her passive and abilities could see that change. Will mid lane Janna make a return for the end of LoL Season 13?

LoL Patch 13.22: Janna Buffs Could Make Her A Great Flex Pick

Janna is a pretty great support in the current state of the game. With a win rate of 52% she's one of the best picks in the bot lane right now, with only Senna and Taric winning out over her.

But it seems that Riot wants to give her a different identity, sick of seeing her only in the bot lane. So, some new numbers have found their way onto the Public Beta Environment for her, and some players believe that these changes could make her a decent mid laner.

P - Tailwind

  • No longer grants Janna speed toward allied champs (allied champions still gain 6% speed toward Janna)
  • Now deals 20% - 35% bonus MS (1 / 6/ 11 / 16) magic damage on basic attack and W

Q - Howling Gale

  • Min damage: 60-160 +35% AP >>> 55-195 +50% AP
  • Max damage: 105-265 +65% AP >>> 85-285 +80% AP
  • Cooldown: 12s >>> 14s
  • Cost: 60-100 >>> 90-110
  • Range indicator will now show both the min and max range, instead of just the max
  • Range indicator will now use a halfwidth of 100 instead of 120 (actual missile halfwidth unchanged at 120)

This change to her Q has a lot of people hopeful that maxing it will be viable once more. Until now, when playing Janna as a support, players mostly went for an E max to get the most of the shield, but with more power in her Q a lot of players believe with Arcane Comet this can be a strong ability.

Playing AP Janna in the mid lane is something a lot of players are willing to test out with the changes to this single ability. But until the changes have gone live, we can only speculate.

W - Zephyr

  • Passive speed is no longer lost while on cooldown
  • Cooldown: 12s constant --> 8s-6s
  • Cost: 50-90 --> 50-75
  • Base damage: 80-200 --> 55-195
  • Slow duration: 3s --> 2s
  • Range indicator: 650 --> 615 (actual cast range unchanged at 650)

Her W is going to be much more impactful as well, with a shorter cooldown than before. In her current state her W is basically ignored, but with some of the changes to Q, she could be viable in the mid lane again, where this could be a great ability to have.

E - Eye of the Storm

  • No longer gains 15% Heal Shield Power for 4s on applying movement impairments to champions
  • Shield duration: 5s --> 4s
  • Shield no longer decays
  • Base shield health: 75-175 --> 80-220
  • Cooldown: 15s-9s --> 16s-12s
  • Now refunds 20% cooldown on applying movement impairments to champions
  • Cost: 70-110 --> 70-90

Overall, the changes to Janna's kit look pretty good and seem to be focusing on her heal and shield power and reducing it slightly, so she can also explore other parts of the map.

Most players believe that Riot is making these adjustments in the wake of the removal of all mythic items, and therefore adding in some key reworks to champions who might be way overpowered once the mythic system is removed.

There will likely be a lot more champion changes coming to the game within the next few patches, so that the balance team can adjust a champion's power accordingly.
