A new games industry survey revealed, that hundreds of developers are already working on titles for the Nintendo Switch 2.
Ahead of the 2024 Game Developers Conference (GDC), organizers of the event asked over 3,000 video game developers a bunch of questions on the state of the industry in the form of a survey. One of the most interesting results from this survey, is that 8% of those, or 250 in total numbers, revealed they’re developing games for the “Nintendo Switch successor”, as it’s called in the survey.
A Lot Of Developers Are Working On Switch 2 Games At The Moment
Obviously, this survey was anonymous, so there’s no way to tell what kind of games we’re talking about here. It’s not a huge breadth, and far below the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S (both at 35% and 34% respectively), but that’s still a sizeable number.
It’s also important to note, as VGC points out in its reporting on this survey, that everything concerning the Switch 2 (or whatever it will be called) is going to be heavily protected in shrouded in secrecy. It’s absolutely feasible then, that a lot of developers won’t disclose they’re working with the console, even in an anonymous survey like this one.
In another question, asking what platform developers are currently most interested in, 32% of developers picked Nintendo’s next console as an answer, behind only PlayStation 5 (41%) and PC (41% and 62% respectively).
The Nintendo Switch successor hasn’t been officially announced yet, but is expected to be revealed and released later this year. A rumored Nintendo Direct in February might be when we first hear about the console, which experts say could cost around $400 and run games at 120 frames-per-second.
